Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Behringer Xenyx Q502USB.

Features and functionality

  • The Behringer Xenyx Q502USB lacks direct monitoring on the phones out, requiring users to manipulate "To phones" and "To main mix" buttons for monitoring adjustments.

    Source
  • The unit requires a power adapter and cannot run solely on USB power, unlike some other interfaces in its price range.

    Source
  • The mixer is recognized by the PC but may not pick up microphone input directly, indicating potential driver or setup issues.

    Source
  • The Xenyx Q502USB only provides 15v phantom power, which may not adequately power condenser mics requiring 48v, leading to potential issues with mic performance.

    Source
  • Some users experience audio channel "bleeding" if the mixer is not properly cleaned, which might result in muted channels still transmitting sound.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Behringer Xenyx Q502USB has been compared to the Scarlett 2i2, with a noted lack of significant difference in noise floor, despite its fewer features.

    Source
  • Users compare the Xenyx Q502USB to the Q802USB, noting the latter's ability to power 48v microphones and support for stereo setups.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for hobbyists who record one track at a time, making the single preamp less of a limitation.

    Source
  • It's recommended to use a DAW or software like Audacity to ensure the microphone signal is processed and recorded correctly.

    Source
  • The mixer is often used with dynamic mics that do not require phantom power, making it a budget-friendly option for such setups.

    Source

User experience

  • Users report a higher noise level on input, with some opting for alternative interfaces like the Focusrite Saffire to resolve this issue.

    Source
  • Owners advise buying new to avoid issues from dust or maintenance neglect that could cause audio problems, such as channel bleeding.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The Q502USB lacks an official driver, complicating setup for streaming and requiring third-party solutions like ASIO4ALL or FlexASIO for compatibility.

    Source
  • For seamless streaming, users recommend employing VoiceMeeter with VB-Audio's Virtual Audio Cables to bridge ASIO and Windows drivers effectively.

    Source
  • OBS can detect the mixer as a microphone input, and any latency can be adjusted in OBS settings using the Mic Sync Offset feature.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • It's possible to connect the mixer output via RCA to a computer’s 1.5mm jack, offering an alternative to USB for audio output.

Rock solid

By no means is this a top-of-the-line mixer, but if you're a hobbyist like me that doesn't need the absolute best mixer then this will fit the bill. Gain and pan options are intuitive, low and high EQ settings to help clean up either rumble or hiss, and built in compression is decent. It also has a phantom power option if needed.

Adequate sounding mixer, but incredible compact and useful

For a functioning mixer that works as well as this one, the price tag is definitely worth it. For microphones, you have the phantom power for condenser microphones which is great. The preamp sounds fairly okay and the gain is pretty good. You can't use both input and output for this, however, probably due to the circuit inside. Until today, I can't seem to be able to use my headphones with this for some reason but it's not that much of a big deal to me.

Iffy

Maybe my unit was defective because of my phantom power. About after 3 days the phantom power blew out and stopped working, so I had to buy an external phantom power block to make this work. When I turn up the gain knob its a loud ringing static noise.

All in all I could of had a defective product but I still use it to this day. Just not for studio recording.
