Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Blackstar HT Club 50H Guitar Amplifier Head.

Features and functionality

  • The amp's OD2 channel is noted for delivering powerful metal tones without additional drive pedals, suitable for genres like Mayhem and Cannibal Corpse.

    Source
  • The amp includes the ISF feature, which is polarizing; some users love it while others find it less appealing.

    Source
  • The HT series is not entirely tube-based, using solid-state clipping in the preamp, contrary to some marketing claims, which may affect tone expectations.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • A 5-button footswitch is recommended for enhanced usability, especially for switching between clean and overdriven channels efficiently.

    Source
  • Running the EQ pedal in the effects loop can drastically shape tone; adjusting mids (800-3.2k) and letting the amp handle highs/lows is recommended.

    Source
  • Using an overdrive pedal with gain low and tone adjusted enhances punch; the Tube Screamer is a popular choice for this setup.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Blackstar HT Club 50H is compared to the Peavey 6505 Invective, with owners finding it satisfactory for high-gain needs, reducing the desire to upgrade.

    Source
  • Some users compare the Blackstar HT Club 50H to Orange and Mesa amps, noting its clean and overdriven tones are a midpoint between Orange's warmth and Marshall's clarity.

    Source
  • The Bugera 4x12 cab with Bugera speakers is not ideal for Death's tone; Marshall 1960s with G12-T75 speakers are suggested for better results.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Users successfully use this amp for a wide range of music styles, from Ed Sheeran to extreme metal, demonstrating its versatility.

    Source
  • Owners suggest pairing the amp with a Marshall, Orange, or Mesa cabinet for optimal sound, rather than using Blackstar's own cabs.

    Source
  • To achieve Death's tone, adjust ISF fully to a Marshall-like setting, use moderate treble (6-7), and tweak mids extensively for a less scooped sound.

    Source
  • For achieving tight scooped metal tones similar to "...And Justice For All," consider pairing the amp with a Tube Screamer or similar overdrive pedal.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners have expressed issues with the reliability and cost of repairs, suggesting caution for long-term ownership.

    Source
  • A user mentions achieving satisfying tones by running an HT 5 combo into a Mesa Lonestar 1x12 cab, suggesting alternative cab pairings for enhanced sound.

Nice head if you are searching for a big variety of tones

It emulates mesa-ish and orange-ish sounds withouth being very into that. We are talking about emulation of circuits, EQ etc for 1/3 or 1/4 of the price of the real ones. Solid head, really user friendly. Two Channels, the clean one is SUPER pedals friendly.

"So, this Blackstar gets a pretty mean tone, and I've been recording a lot with this. What I really like about it is how it goes from that nice heavy tone to a nice clean tone with the push of a button." - Aaron Abeyta at :30s in this video.
