Critic Reviews

Cherry Audio Memorymode

soundonsound.com

Cherry Audio's Memorymode is a compelling homage to the classic Memorymoog, delivering impressive sound quality and user-friendly programming at a fraction of the original's price. While it offers modern enhancements like velocity sensitivity and expanded polyphony, some drawbacks include aliasing issues and underwhelming onboard effects. The online help documentation could also use a revamp. Though it captures the essence of its predecessor, the Memorymode lacks the unique character that comes from the quirks of vintage hardware. Ultimately, it's a solid choice for those seeking a warm, analog-like sound, but those expecting a perfect replica might be disappointed.

Cherry Audio Memorymode Review

musictech.com

Cherry Audio's Memorymode is a delightful homage to the classic Memorymoog, offering a plethora of sounds and user-friendly controls that inspire creativity. With over 600 presets and an intuitive interface, it caters to both beginners and seasoned synth enthusiasts. The onboard effects and modulation capabilities enhance its versatility, making it suitable for various genres. However, some presets can feel a tad generic, lacking the punch of custom-designed sounds. At an introductory price of $39, this synth is hard to resist for anyone seeking an affordable yet powerful virtual instrument.

Excellent !

I have never owned a memorymoog, so I can't make a direct comparison, but this sounds great in it's own right. It has a retro warmth and makes the kind of synth sounds you'd hear on Bowie's Ashes to ashes, and just has this great late 70s vibe. I own all the other Cherry Audio synths except the latest Mercury 4, but this one is the best yet, and for less than £30, it's incredible, especially as the only real Memorymoog I could find to buy, is a fridge magnet, thanks to their scarcity, but if you could find one, it would cost upwards of £10k, so that's a bit of a win, and good luck fitting a real memorymoog on a usb thumb drive =)
