What’s New Never Became Old: Cherry Audio PS-20 - Synth and Software

synthandsoftware.com

Cherry Audio's PS-20 breathes fresh life into the classic Korg MS-20 with a rich sound and expanded features like 16-note polyphony and a versatile patch panel. Musicians will appreciate its intuitive interface and solid preset library. However, it lacks modern conveniences such as adjustable envelope curves and multimode filters, limiting its versatility for some users. Overall, while it may not cater to every contemporary synth user's needs, the PS-20 successfully offers a nostalgic yet innovative experience for enthusiasts.

Cherry Audio's PS-20 plugin rejuvenates the classic Korg MS-20 with modern enhancements, delivering familiar, gritty sounds along with a flexible patch panel. The addition of 16-note polyphony, a layered sequencer, and built-in effects amplifies its appeal. Good, but............

I own the Korg ms20 vst, and the iMS-20, and the Behringer K2, and the PS-20 just doesn't have as much filter bite. It's also very heavy on cpu, and with a 3.8ghz intel quad-core PC with 32gb of ram, it was stuttering with 2 instances. The presets are pretty fat sounding, and it does sound good, but the cpu use is a big problem. It makes a very authentic vintage sound, similar to OMD in the early 80s, and it's very good at that, but I know the Korg Ms20 is capable of sounding ultra modern as well, and I don't get that from the PS-20, but......it has polyphony, which the ms-20 doesn't have. It's a great addition, but then you're hamstrung by the CPU usage again. It also has a 3 track 8 note sequencer. I paid £23 for it, and for that price, it's a great synth. It has shortcomings, yes, but hopefully they'll be rectified with some updates.
