Critic Reviews

DMC Ground Control (RM Dec 92)

muzines.co.uk

The DMC Ground Control MIDI foot controller is a performing musician's ally, offering seamless control over multiple effects units with ease. Its robust design and straightforward setup make it a valuable tool for stage use. The ability to name channels and presets on a clear LED display is a practical feature, adding to its user-friendly appeal. However, the reliance on an external power supply is a potential stage hazard, and the lack of MIDI merging capabilities could deter keyboard players. Minor improvements like illuminated pedal numbers would enhance usability. Despite these small drawbacks, the Ground Control remains an affordable and efficient solution for managing complex MIDI setups.

Matheos might have scaled back his setup, but he still manages to extract a lot of sounds from his rig, thanks to his Ground Control unit. "ln a typical set, l've probably got a good 4o sounds programmed in there," he says. "Before each show, l'll program one bank with two dirty channels, one semi-dirty channel, a couple clean channels and a lead channel. lf we run three songs together l'll try to get them all in one bank. Than I just go up a bank for the next set of songs."
