"I use this one here and just keep it in my drawer, and I stand here and tune and change buttons because it's patched in remotely to the one out on the stage. But the buttons were too close here for Dan because he's singing and not really looking down there. I had a custom one made of stainless steel by a fabricator in Akron. It's all designed to keep the buttons spaced out. So once the box was built it was shipped to Ron Minelli at RJM, and he made custom electronics to fit inside of it based on the design I gave him, which is pretty much the same as the RJM," says Dan Auerbach's guitar tech about the RJM MasterMind MIDI Foot Controller.more
"I got so tired of missing cues, trying to push pedals at the right time. The sounds were often not exactly right, or properly balanced, with good gain staging. *So I have an RJM Mastermind that controls the RJM MIDI Effects Gizmo [loop switching station] and handles all my pedals.* Two of them are MIDI-capable Eventide pedals, and the Mastermind also controls their parameters. My keyboard player controls the whole pedalboard remotely, through MIDI. That way I no longer have to click pedals left and right and pray that the gain staging is correct. This helps me play complicated guitar parts, sing, and be invested in the performance— it allows me to be a performer instead of a pedal tweaker and a shoe gazer." "I recently switched to Midi controlling for all of my effects pedals. I found that with our new material I had to do too much 'tap dancing' on my pedal board to get the sounds I wanted and I needed something to that allowed me to change channels on my amp and lots of pedals at once." "Enter the RG-16. This midi interface has made my life a lot easier. Now if I want to go from, say, my lead channel with my NS-2 and TS-9 to my clean channel with my compressor, DD7, RV5, on and my NS-2 and TS-9 off, I just have to hit one button on my Mastermind Midi Controller. It makes my life a LOT easier and makes tone changes a breeze. The setup was pretty complex and required the building of a ton of custom cables. The cable making was easy though, thanks to the custom cable making kits that Planet Waves makes. " My rig has come a long way over the last few years. For a long time I used only an overdrive pedal, noise gate, and tuner. It’s funny how the longer I’ve played the more obsessed with gear and effects I’ve become."more
In this picture (from RJM official website http://www.rjmmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=803 ) of Toko's pedalbaord bild, as well as St. Vincent's, by Nice Rack Canada; we can spot a RJM MasterMind MIDI Foot Controller. "The MIDI controlled factor of this board allowed us to compact the Left to Right footprint to a size that would comfortable fit under an "X" Brace keyboard stand by concentrating all actuated switches in the bottom row closest to the players foot. The RJM Music MasterMInd is an ideal cost effective prograde MIDI Controller for a system like this."more
