Description

Discover the Maestro BB-1 Bass Brassmaster, a pedal that channels the classic sounds of the 1970s into a modern format. Offering a distinct blend of fuzz and octave effects, this pedal is designed specifically for bass players who crave a thick, harmonically rich tone. With its authentic Germanium diodes, the BB-1 delivers a warm, vintage fuzz that cuts through the mix while preserving the low-end punch that bass players need. Ideal for both live performances and studio sessions, this pedal allows musicians to explore a wide range of sonic possibilities—from smooth, subtle overdrive to aggressive, full-on fuzz.

The BB-1's intuitive controls provide easy access to a dynamic array of sounds. Its 'Brass' control adjusts the harmonic content, while the 'Blend' knob allows you to mix the fuzz effect with your dry signal, ensuring your bass tone retains its essential character. True bypass switching ensures that your signal remains pure and unaltered when the pedal is not in use, making it a reliable addition to any pedalboard setup.

  • Dedicated 'Brass' control for harmonic content adjustment
  • 'Blend' knob for mixing dry and effect signals

FLASHBACK: 1970s Maestro Bass Brassmaster BB-1 Fuzz | Performer Mag

performermag.com

The Maestro BB-1 Bass Brassmaster is a rare gem from the 1970s, lauded for its unique circuitry and dual-path design that blends clean and fuzz signals for versatile bass and guitar tones. Its ability to switch between different harmonic and tonal characteristics makes it a favorite among musicians like Chris Squire and Dave Beste. While its vintage charm comes at a steep price, with originals fetching around $2,000, modern equivalents like the Black Cat Bass Octave Fuzz offer a budget-friendly alternative. A must-have for those seeking rich, textured distortion and a piece of rock history.

Mentioned in this June 29, 2019 interview on the website for Stompbox: 100 Pedals of the World’s Greatest Guitarists.

“I have a Maestro Bass Brassmaster, which is a fuzz pedal everyone’s been searching for forever,” he explains. “I don’t ever take that stuff on the road though. I would use it on records, but I’ve been able to get what I want out of other fuzz pedals. Malekko made a clone of it, which sounds really great too. It’s called the Barker B:Assmaster. I’d rather take that than take the original. Brassmaster on the road. I don’t want it to mess up. If it ever messes up, those things are expensive now.”

In this rundown, Chris's bass tech describes the unit as a 'Maestro fuzz box' at 15:56, although with controls such as brass volume, bass volume and sensitivity and the unusual layout of the knobs down the right hand side of the pedal it must be an original Brassmaster from the 60's
