Atoragon's Guitar Nerding Blog: Review: Randall RH50T

atoragon.blogspot.com

The Randall RH50T is a sturdy, compact tube amp that excels in low to mid-gain genres, offering a rich, warm tone thanks to its EL34 tubes. Its two-channel setup with multiple modes and built-in spring reverb makes it versatile for various styles. However, while it shines in rock and pop, it struggles with high-gain metal tones, often becoming muddy without additional pedals and careful adjustments. For the price, especially in the used market, it’s a solid choice—but metal players be warned: you’ll need to work hard to get the sound you’re after.

The Randall RH50T head delivers a powerful performance with a well-crafted build and a versatile range of tones that cater to both vintage and modern preferences. Its solid construction and user-friendly features make it a joy to use. However, the somewhat basic two-page manual leaves room for improvement. Overall, this amp stands out as a reliable choice for musicians seeking quality sound without breaking the bank.

Solid amplifier on a budget

This amplifier feels solidly built and produces a nice Marshall-type sound, with a second gain type that's more suited for leads. The cleans can lack headroom, but work well otherwise. Overall, the tone is very dark, so it could potentially use an EQ pedal in the effects loop, or an overdrive before it to push it a bit. The controls are smooth and have quite a bit of resistance, with metal knobs.
