Critic Reviews

Soma Laboratory The Pipe

soundonsound.com

Soma Laboratory's The Pipe is a uniquely expressive instrument, merging a vocal contact microphone with innovative DSP algorithms. Its sturdy build and tactile controls invite creativity, though handling can be awkward for beginners, requiring practice to master. The twelve algorithms deliver diverse sonic possibilities, but the learning curve can be steep, demanding discipline for optimal results. While it’s a delight for those seeking individuality in sound, its weight and grip may challenge extended use. Overall, The Pipe offers a compelling mix of innovation and expressiveness for adventurous musicians, but be prepared to invest time in mastering its nuances.

The Pipe carves open your skull and releases your true inner voice

The pipe lets you use your voice to make the sounds you hear inside your head, but can never get out. It's surprisingly playable and fun, once you master the hand position. My neighbors are very concerned about this instrument.
