    Source
  • The SSL Duality preamps include a drive knob, allowing for a unique and fun mixing experience, distinct from traditional models like the SSL K series.

    Source

Comparisons

Use cases and applications

  • The lack of channel dynamics on the Oracle has been identified as a significant oversight, especially compared to older models that offered comprehensive recallable compression.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Concerns exist about modern board repairability, as older consoles are more easily maintained, whereas newer models may lack long-term support and parts availability.

    Source
  • Syncing Pro Tools to the Duality requires using Midi Time Code from port 14 and selecting the GEN MTC button on the transport.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Successful automation requires setting the Duality as the Time Code Master and confirming Avid MachineControl is licensed and installed for Pro Tools.

In this interview with Billboard, DJ Quik explains mixing with the legendary board on the song "My N*gga" by YG "I pull the song up, clean it all up, put it through that SSL board -- SSL is one of the best recording systems ever. I made it really dynamic, cleaned it, did all the little stuff that needed to be done. Then I stemmed it out. That's a term that sound guys use when you have to make it easy for someone to remix. Instead of them having this whole jumbled console full of one hi-hat here, one horn sound over there, you put them in stereo stems so it all makes sense. "
