The ultimate DAW package for Music Production and Post Production

Just purchased the cross-grade from Cubase Pro to Nuendo since aside from my usual music making projects, I've been slowly dipping my toes into the post production world. This one has everything you need to make music, design sounds for film and games, and score. Definitely worth the price I paid.

seancroneaudio

No other DAW comes close, you can fight me on this.

For those confused on Nuendo v. Cubase, this program does everything Cubase can do. The difference is it's unparalleled features for film and game audio. If you're a composer who also works as a sound designer, Foley artist, ADR engineer, re-recording engineer, or want to break into game audio, or work in immersive formats such as Atmos, there is NO other DAW out there to choose.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Randomizer plugin is a dream! Saves hours of recording various footsteps if you're on a time crunch :)

mersenne

Downright unparalleled for scoring, in my eyes.

The systems Nuendo offers are phenomenal competition to production-focused DAWs like Ableton. People will generally agree Pro Tools is the best for recording, and worst for production, but you can do both really easily and really well in Nuendo. For compatibility's sake, it's the best in my eyes.

"Having said that, it's still more convenient to use multitracking software, and the reality is that my tape recorder is not here. The majority of the Shobaleader record was done in Nuendo, but I try to do as little in a computer?based multitrack as possible," Tom says, in this article.

Mentioned by producer Sandy Vee in this Sound on Sound interview about the production of "Firework". An image of the settings can be found here.

"I've included a screenshot of a single phrase in which you can see how it's possible to work directly on the vocal in Nuendo. The different coloured blocks indicate the different notes, and you can tune the vocal or change the vibrato. It's incredibly easy and you don't need Melodyne or Auto-Tune. This screenshot is for demonstration purposes only, because we didn't actually have to tune Katy's vocal, she was right on the note. Of course, Phil mixed the vocals. I bounced tracks 129 to 166 to stereo and I sent this to Phil, as well as a screenshot of my mastering chain, my treatment of the stereo master. So once Phil had mixed in the vocal, he could reproduce my mastering chain by using the same plug-ins and looking at the screenshot. In this way, the music is done, and all Phil has to focus on are the vocals.”

At the time of "Firework"'s production, Nuendo 4 was the latest version of the software.
