Description
The new Two-Rock Crystal amplifier line celebrates Two-Rock's 15th year (the crystal anniversary) by bringing us a much requested, familiar design! People have been asking for a scaled back version of the John Mayer Signature amp for quite some time, and now Two-Rock is delivering!
Like the Mayer Signature, much of the preamp stage is based on their Custom Reverb Signature amp, with some refinements here and there. The "mid" and "deep" switches have been eliminated, while the "bright" is still present in the form of a push/pull pot on the gain knob.
The purpose of the Crystal is for Two-Rock to bring the world it's most revealing amp yet, with superb dynamic control and rich harmonic tones. With the Master Volume, you can keep this amp crystal clean and spanky, or drive it harder to get a non-compressed tube saturated distortion. Like the Mayer Signature, the contour control allows global fine tuning of overall output EQ.
In combo form, Two-Rock has paired the Crystal with a Celestion Gold Alnico for the perfect balance between cleans and breakup. The combo is only available in 22 and 40 watts.
Two-Rock Crystal Features:
Single Channel Treble, Middle, Bass EQ controls Contour, Gain and Master with pull bright on the Gain control Lush Two-Rock Reverb with Send & and Return, and increased complexity and depth Player friendly control layout Passive Effects Loop Carbon Fiber Covering
Crystal Defined:
This amp is related to Two-Rocks Heritage series of amps due to its strong connection to the John Mayer signature series, an amp that launched Two-Rock's single channel series of amplifiers. A classic Two- Rock gain structure, the focus of this amp is on the TONE not the options and switches. High performance is the key to this amp. How does this amp differ from the Studio Pro or the Classic?! Here is a helpful guide to share with customers and your staff.
The Crystal is more dynamic and harmonically rich. The front end/EQ are very similar but after that the reverb, mixing stage, and power section differ. The Studio Pro has a more limited amount of landscape in the frequency spectrum. The Crystal pushes those bands and adds depth, which also lends itself to more pronounced low, mid, and treble. In a nutshell it allows more exchange in frequencies across all the bands. There is a clarity in the overall Low, Mid, and Highs and how they interact with each other. When you hit a chord there is clear definition. The notes don’t compete for anything, they just expand out. The reaction time on the fret board is even greater than the S.pro. There is an added depth to the overall harmonics. The Crystal has less features like push/pulls, pickup loading and a half buffered loop. In the Crystal, taking the effects loop out of the circuit gave Two-Rock an added stage for reverb and allows for a better integration of that reverb back into the amp. All in all, the depth, clarity and fullness is a bit more defined in the reverb section of the Crystal. The Studio Pro line is a bit more compressed than the Crystal due to the effects loop. The Classic Reverb is like a loaded Mayer sig, or a loaded Crystal. A lot of bells, whistles, switches and gadgets add to the ultimate tweak ability of this amp. The classic still doesn’t quite have the depth of the crystal.
