    Source

Comparisons

  • The DSL40CR version is noted for improved voicings and a better speaker compared to the older DSL40C, offering a crisper sound.

    Source
  • For lower volume needs, consider the Orange Rocker 15 Terror or the DSL20W, which steps down to 10W, as alternatives to the DSL40C.

DSL40 6 botton pedal does exist !!!

I have a DSL 40. Awesome amp comes with a 2 button pedal. This is stupid!! I ordered a pedal from a company over seas that made a 6 Botton pedal and it works great! Now I can go from clean to crunch in 2 different volumes and fx on off and lead Chanel 2 master vol by hitting the pedal one Botton each. No hunting or finding what patch. About $140 said and done. Shipping was a problem! I had to ship it to a relative in Holland and he shipped it here. What that crap was about I don't know. Here is reality 1x Marshall PEDL-91016 footswitch , Marshall 6-way programmable for DSL40CR & DSL100HR.Thoman It took 6 months to get it but worth the wait. I would have bought 100 of them and sold them but they won't ship to the US I don't know what thats all about I just want to jam and play in my band not deal with politics. Good luck

The quintessential Marshall DSL

This is my favorite Marshall DSL. The 40W is plenty of power and it is just really easy to get a great sound out of it. I am not a super high-gain guy, so I mostly use Channel 1 (on clean and crunch). Mine has also been upgraded to a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, which I think is a significant improvement. During practice, I usually hook it up to a 1960A cab, and it sounds even better. To be honest, I usually keep it in Triode mode (half power), so I am sure I am still artificially throttling it a little. But I love that it has that kind of versatility. I think this amp has already entered the pantheon of iconic guitar amps.

jimmarchi1

actually running a pentode in triode mode produces about 30% power and also ahs a completely different response....

louis_dale

Brilliant Amp

The critically acclaimed DSL40C shares most of the same great features as the DSL100H™: footswitchable Classic/Ultra Gain channels, rear panel Pentode/Triode switch (40 Watt down to 20 Watt) which changes the amp’s sonic character and playing feel, and a rear panel series FX Loop. It also features footswitchable digital Reverb – Channel change and Reverb on/off footswitch is supplied. The popularity of the DSL40C lies in its feature-packed capability, versatility, its volume-to-size ratio, and its value for money. The DSL40C is ultra portable and packs a punch, and is a “keen reminder that Marshall® has earned every one of [its] 50 years at the top.” – Total Guitar Magazine. The DSL40C is loaded with a single 12” Celestion® Seventy 80 speaker.

jimmarchi1

triode mode does not cut wattage by 50% its electrically between 3 and 4 fifths power of pentode mode, so in decibels with the same amp settings thru the same speaker you are looking at about a 15% cut in audible volume (if I am doing my guesstimate math right in my head, I am @work and o a phone)....

it'll sound softer though due to the very different dynamic response and bandwidth of Pentodes and Beam-tetrodes run as triodes in a circuit voiced for a Pentode power section.... so there will be some psychoacoustic sense of quietness in addition to the couple dB of actual sound pressure reduction

its not your fault you think triode mode is half-power/volume, marshall has been perpetuating this myth as a marketing tool since the 80s.

louis_dale

@jimmarchi1 okay can you please leave my profile alone please? You're creeping me out, also I just copied this off a review by andertons guitar shop because I couldnt be bothered typing a few paragraphs about the amp itself...

jimmarchi1

you were in my feed slamming it with sketchy reviews and plagiarism, I'm not in your profile... but I'll just ignore you and stop trying to learn ya a thing or two about your gear. Guess you're not interested in how your stuff works.

louis_dale

@jimmarchi1 dude I dont have this amp, im getting it sometime this year, I just put it as I have it because at this point its practically a matter of waiting for me. Same along with some other stuff on my profile, mostly all the new stuff that pops up. I practically copy and paste all my comments..... With just a few being my own. And mate, not everyone wants you to tell them whats what about their stuff k?

Great Marshall Combo

If you want the Marshall Tone, pass on the thinner sounding DSL15, and grab this guy. Love the option of Pent and Tri for half power. Comes with 2 channels plus reverb and rear effects loop. Plays nicely with pedals and gives clean, crunch and lead Marshall for a lot less than one of their half stacks!!!

Excelent amp

Estou muito feliz com este Marshall. Quatro canais - limpo, crunch, overdrive, distortion. Excelente para iniciantes em valvulados. Ponto fraco para o REVERB e para o footswitch que só permite alterar para todos os modos.

icarranza97

Marshall DSL 40c

Used almost always (depending on the venue) at 20 watts, the clean is quite round, set with the gain past 12. I like to combine its distortion with some of the pedals, gain at 10.

All tube Marshall amp for sweet price.

This thing sounds absolutely beautiful tone wise. Many options for shaping your tone, however, only things i dont like is the reverb is bery weak but whatever. And the footswitch doesnt have enough options for all the GREAT STUFF THAT COME ON THIS AMP! very loud too

elduderinotf

Marshall.

Gotta say, I'm a Marshall man now... Does anyone have experience with adding a cabinet to this? Any advice would be great.

jimmarchi1

make sure you get the impedance matched correctly with a 2nd cab, the transformers on Marshalls are not tolerant of impedance mismatches and the DSL series are underspecced in every area including transformers, so a mismatch will blow your OT, if you are not sure what you are doing consult the manual before plugging another speaker load into the extension jack

Loud, Powerful, Love It

This amp is everything you need in a tube amp. It has some amazing sounds out of it and loves pedals. You cannot go wrong with it. The Marshall DSL 40C is everything you need in an amp and more!
