Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Yamaha Vocaloid 6.

Comparisons

  • Vocaloid 6's AI voicebanks are often compared unfavorably to Synth V, with users noting a lack of distinctive character and personality in the vocals.

    Source
  • Internet Co. appears to be positioning Gumi as a potential new Vocaloid mascot, which could elevate her profile if marketed effectively.

    Source
  • It's noted that Gumi's voice in Vocaloid 6 aligns with expectations for a character upgrade, offering a sound that retains her essence while improving quality.

    Source

User experience

  • Longtime users feel the charm of Vocaloid’s classic robotic voices is diminished in V6's AI voicebanks, leading to dissatisfaction among traditional enthusiasts.

    Source
  • Vocaloid 6’s new AI features simplify tuning to achieve a more human-like sound, although manual tuning remains an option for further customization.

    Source

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Vocaloid 6 supports voice banks from versions 3, 4, and 5, but not from V2 due to 32-bit compatibility issues with modern operating systems.

    Source

    Source
  • Vocaloid 6 includes Cubase AI, facilitating integration with DAW software and simplifying the process for new users.

    Source
  • Vocaloid 6's editor supports voice banks from version 3 onwards, including Miku V4X, allowing for continuity in project usage.

    Source
  • Vocaloid 6 allows importing MIDI files created in Cubase AI to add lyrics and adjust melodies, making it accessible for beginners with basic music theory knowledge.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • A clean, noise-free recording environment is essential for accurate voice translation into Vocaloid, as post-generation editing is limited.

Solid.

I’ve worked with both Vocaloid 4 and Vocaloid 6, and Yamaha did indeed improve things a ton with this one. The parameters and features of V6 are very user-friendly and straight forward, far easier to tune with.

Nice Major Upgrade!

I like that with the V6 Voicebanks, you can make the voice sing in 3 languages. It can sing in Japanese, English, and Chinese on the same track! I do hope they improve the engine noise but it's a great start so far. Plus, it is backward compatible with V4/V4/V5 Voicebanks but those voicebanks can't use the new features due to the V6 Voicebanks having a new AI Technology.
