Description

The Telefunken TF47 Large-diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone is an immaculate blend of contemporary design and classic sound. Modeled after the legendary "German" sound, the TF47 offers a unique sonic appeal drawn from the historical U47 and M49. Its deep low end and forward midrange make it an ideal choice for recording vocals, guitar amps, and drums, adding a touch of depth and presence to any source you choose.

At the core of the TF47 is the all-brass K47-style capsule, a new old-stock 5840W vacuum tube, and the custom-made historically accurate BV8 transformer, identical to the one found in the U47. These components together contribute to a warm, punchy sound reminiscent of the U47, perfectly balanced with a pleasant top-end articulation that nestles seamlessly into any mix.

Hand-assembled in the USA with meticulous care, the TF47 offers three polar patterns - cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8, providing a wealth of sonic possibilities for different recording techniques. The Telefunken TF47 is not just a microphone, it's an investment in your sound.

Critic Reviews

Recording Review: Telefunken Elektroakustik Alchemy Series TF47 & TF51

recordingmag.com

Telefunken’s TF47 microphone lands as a modern homage to the classic U47 sound, showcasing a smooth, punchy midrange and a well-rounded low end that excels in various recording scenarios. Its new K47-style capsule lends a clean and open response, making it a versatile choice for vocals and instruments alike. However, while it captures the essence of its predecessor, some may find it lacks the gritty, vintage character that others might prefer. Overall, the TF47 stands out for its impressive build quality and sound performance, appealing to those seeking a refined yet powerful microphone without the boutique price tag.

positive

Telefunken Alchemy Series

soundonsound.com

Telefunken’s TF47 aims to channel the iconic sound of vintage mics but falls short in execution. While the build quality is commendable and the aesthetics are a perfect blend of retro and modern, its pronounced mid-range peak can lead to an unbalanced sound, especially on female vocals. This mic shines with certain male voices and instruments but may not be the versatile all-rounder some hope for. For its price, you might find better alternatives that deliver a more balanced performance. It's a decent option, but not without its flaws.
