Features and functionality
-
The JD10 can accept a wide range of power inputs: 6-20VAC or 9-30VDC, in either polarity.
Source -
The speaker sim in the JD10 primarily adjusts EQ, reducing highs and boosting mids.
Source -
The JD10 produces a thick, non-fizzy high distortion sound, suitable for bass and guitar, and can range from clean to hard rock tones.
Source
Use cases and applications
-
The clean setting adds compression and sparkle, improving tone control over a 1960's Vadis 409 amp.
Source -
Increasing the drive on the clean setting achieves a tube breakup sound, responding well to volume and pick attack.
Source -
Highly effective for creating thick bass tones and versatile for guitar, capable of blues to hard rock but struggles to reach modern metal sounds without additional amp support.
Source
Setup and maintenance
-
Removing dust and using Deoxit can eliminate scratchiness in the pots, restoring functionality.
Source
User experience
-
Owners have noted the pedal works well as an always-on device for enhanced tonal control.
Source
Build quality
-
Front-facing knobs are susceptible to damage if not handled carefully, and the pots may accumulate dirt quickly if not regularly adjusted.

Artist usage
Add artist
In the source link PDF, on the second page, you can see Jerry Donahue himself holding the Sessionmaster JD10 preamp in his hands. Jerry Donahue collaborated extensively with Stewart Ward (the founder of the company Award-Session) to develop the preamp to his liking and earning it as his signature pedal (JD in the model name stands for Jerry Donahue). Jerry Donahue used it for both studio session playing and recording work and live gigs across the globe, according to the official product manual.
Quoting Jerry Donahue from the official product manual:
"It's my... Guitar Amp Emulator, Humbucker Emulator, Amp Tone Expander, Overdrive, Recording PreAmp, Guitar Speaker Simulator, EQ/Tone Booster, Signal Booster... all in one great pedal!"
