JF-13 AC Tone Review: I'm incredibly happy with this pedal for the lighter overdrive tones... | Joyo | Guitar Effects | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Joyo JF-13 AC Tone is a budget-friendly gem, simulating the classic Vox AC30 sound with remarkable dynamic response. Easy to use and built like a tank, this pedal shines with sparkling clean to slightly dirty tones and excels at single note leads and full chords. However, it struggles with power chords at high gain, becoming noisy. Still, for lighter overdrive tones, it's unbeatable in its price range, outclassing more expensive competitors. A reliable choice for those seeking quality without breaking the bank.

Great affordable pedal to get close to the iconic Vox sound

I am a very big fan of The Beatles and Queen, and when I saw this for 30 dollars I knew I had to get it. I expected it to be just alright, but it's actually very good, of course being how cheap it is it won't be able to replicate the Vox AC-30 sound exactly but it gets the job done, I like that it's pretty much an amp and cab simulator in a pedal so you can take it to gigs and plug it straight to the PA without needing to carry a giant amp around, as a member of the upcoming Turkish Beatles tribute band, The All-Starrs, I'm looking forward to using it live. It gets pretty close to the Beatles' early sound. In terms of Queen and Brian May, that's a sound that's very hard to replicate so I didn't expect it to be anywhere near but it's close enough, you could probably get it pretty close with a few other pedals, there are many videos online of people doing that.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Low a little rolled off, mid at middle, treble slightly turned up, voice at middle, drive turned down creates a nice clean sound. I prefer using it with the bridge pickup of my Stratocaster though it would probably sound better with a Telecaster or Gretsch with filtertrons.

yeeshee_intertwine

Great quality for the price.

I originally bought this as a preamp for direct recording/live applications, but now I use it mostly as a nice light overdrive, or boost into my main drive pedal and it does that very nicely. I've never played through a real AC30 so I can't give an accurate comparison, but to my untrained ear it definitely carries some of the same qualities.

T

Ton(e)s of AC

It's been ages since I have been cooling my legs with some fullblown 2x12 AC 30 amp... But the Joyo Pedal seems to remind me a lot. The Voice knob can change the whole character of the pedal from crisp to distorted (cw). And the 3 way tone stack is really active, so make only small changes when chasing tone.

jimmarchi1

an ac30 is not THAT loud, takes 2 of them to fan your legs properly

so so

an ok product, has some distortion and EQ, but definitely can't replace AC30, not even close to the sound of it

Nice VOX AC30 bright tones

This Vox AC30 sim has a lot of versatility, even if always chasing the Vox tone. The building is very good, seems to be a very durable little metal box. I found it great on the clean side, never getting too much over the crunch sound. Don't expect a raging overdrive, but expect a very good tamed one. The controls are sensible, so small changes have big consequences in the guitar sound.

jimmarchi1

its weird that it has a mid control, that's just un-top-boost

lucianorg

Yeah. For the mid control I noticed it's best at 12 or 13 o'clock. Bellow 12 gives you a more round sound though.

zulfiqarjkhan

good for slightly overdriven and clean tones!

I use it regularly in my live shows. serves its purpose. It tries to clone VOX AC30. It doesn't do a perfect job. But whatever it does is pretty credible. And for the price tag of under 40 usd, I don't think there is any other choice as well. If you are starting off in the world of pedals, this is a great first pedal!

fernghouly

Great inexpensive drive

this drive is my main squeeze these days!!! it took a lot of fiddling to get the tones i like but boy howdy i like 'em
