Description

Triptychon is a sonic artwork built around three independent tone elements, each complete on its own, yet fully realized when combined. Here, those elements become the fundamental building blocks of electric guitar tone: fuzz, harmonic shaping, and amplifier drive. In classic recordings, these were never isolated effects. Fuzzes, octave fuzz pedals and treble boosters were pushed into already driven amplifiers, where the interaction between stages created the compression, sustain, and harmonic richness we now associate with vintage tone. In modern rigs, however, players often use clean platforms and rely on pedals for gain, which changes this interaction significantly. Triptychon is designed to recreate that original signal chain, allowing those classic tones to translate properly into contemporary setups.

Fuzz: The Core Voice (center panel)

At the heart of Triptychon lies an all analog 4-voice fuzz engine inspired by some of the most iconic circuits in guitar history:

ff: inspired by Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face

vtb: inspired by Vox Tone Bender

3/2: inspired by Sola Sound Tone Bender Mk1.5

2: inspired by Sola Sound Tone Bender MkII

From dynamic and responsive to saturated and aggressive, each voice retains its own identity, allowing you to explore the full spectrum of classic fuzz behavior.

Boost / Upper Octave Fuzz: Harmonic Expansion (right panel)

The right panel expands the harmonic range with a dual-voice architecture for each mode.

In boost mode, it delivers two distinct treble booster voices, from classic cutting presence to a fuller, mid-focused response.

In octave mode, it becomes an upper octave fuzz, offering two distinct voices ranging from articulate and defined to saturated and harmonically rich overtones.

Drive: The Amplifier Foundation (left panel)

The left panel completes the system by recreating the feel of a pushed amplifier.

Rather than acting as a typical overdrive, it provides the compression, response, and harmonic environment where fuzzes and boosters truly come alive. It can subtly enhance sustain and clarity or be pushed further to shape the overall gain structure, just like a real amp.

Silicon Heart. Germanium Soul.

At the triptych core lies a silicon heart, beating through a custom six metal-can silicon transistor design that delivers true germanium tone and feel, with the cleanup and dynamic response players expect but without the instability.

This is not simply a matter of using specific components. It is a carefully engineered circuit approach designed to recreate the behavior, interaction, and touch sensitivity of classic germanium-based designs, while maintaining consistency in any environment.

Designed for Real-World Rigs

Classic fuzz and treble booster circuits are highly dependent on direct interaction with passive guitar pickups. In modern setups, where buffers, active pickups and wireless systems are common, this interaction is often lost. Triptychon integrates dedicated switchable anti-buffer circuits that restore the correct impedance relationship, allowing each stage to respond as intended even in complex pedalboards. Engage the anti-buffer circuits when a buffered pedal or active pickups/circuits are present before Triptychon. When connecting directly from a passive guitar pickup, leave them disengaged.

The drive section can be assigned to either the fuzz or the boost/octave footswitch, allowing it to operate within a compact, intuitive setup without increasing pedalboard complexity. For expanded control, an external, matching artwork XT footswitch (sold separately) can be connected, enabling the drive section to function completely independently. This allows deeper control over the gain structure, seamless switching between configurations, and greater flexibility without increasing pedalboard complexity.

Triptychon: Crazy Tube Circuits 3-in-1 Fuzz & More - gearnews.com

gearnews.com

Crazy Tube Circuits' Triptychon pedal packs a punch with its 3-in-1 design, blending fuzz, harmonic shaping, and amp drive into one compact unit. It captures vintage tones with a modern twist, offering iconic fuzz personalities like Fuzz Face and Tone Bender. The pedal’s versatility, with its boost and octave modes, provides a wide sonic palette, though it may overwhelm those who prefer simplicity. While its switchable anti-buffer circuits ensure compatibility with various setups, the €315 price tag might deter budget-conscious buyers. A great choice for those seeking versatility in a small package, but fiddling with toggles during live shows could be tricky.
