Good TB-303 emulation, but it shows its age.

There are only a vey few VSTs, which can replicate the sound of the TB-303, and Phoscyon is among them.

Phoscyon is really good, if you produce Acid Techno. The built-in distortion sounds amazing. Though, when it comes to the plain sound, the two main competitors Audio Realism's ABL3 and Roland's Cloud TB-303 sound a bit closer to the TB-303 in my ears.

My go to TB-303 VST is ABL3, which I am a huge fan of. I use Phoscyon to switch it up, once in a while. The main problem I have with Phoscyon is not the sound, it's the user interface. It's confusing and it does not scale well on my monitor. Everything is tiny. So, I find myself scanning the UI with a magnifying glass when I haven't used it for a while. Phoscyon is out there for a long time. The user interface did not age well when using today's high resolution screens.

The big plus for Phoscyon is its price. While ABL3 is around $100 and Roland's TB-303 VST sets you back around $150, when buying it outside of the cloud subscription, Phoscyon is offered at prices below $70. When you shop around, you should find a deal, where you can get it for $50 or even less.

When not looking at the free Venom VB-303, which is only available as Windows 32 bit plugin, or the free Acid Devil (part of the the RS-Met Toolchain), which does not even seem to synch to the DAW, Phoscyon is the most affordable option for good 303 basslines.

Rating + 4.5 Stars for being a pretty good sounding 303 VST at a low price point - 0.5 Stars deduction for the non-scalable UI = 4 Stars

Feels sterile

Wish I'd bought Imagelines Transistor Bass, which is much more accurate as a tb303 emulation. The cutoff filter coesn't cut enough. The resonance isn't squelchy enough. Probably won't see much use as I'll either buy Transistor Bass to replace it, or get a genuine Roland 303 and do it right.

We also use the TAL 101 and the D16 Phoscyon; both of them are 303 emulations. From what I've read, these aren't the most realistic 303 machines out there, but that's not a problem for us because we aren't too interested in the genuine 'acid sound' – I think you hear much more of that coming from the UK at the moment.
