Reviews

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fishman Fluence 7-String Modern Humbucker Ceramic.

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners report swapping to the Fishman Abasi set for improved clean and split-coil tones, though it may require a full rewire depending on the model.

    Source
  • Using a jumper for the Voice 1 gain reduction can enhance clarity and balance the high output.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners find the Moderns to lack personality, suggesting they are not ideal for those seeking distinctive character in their pickups.

    Source
  • A user noted that the Fluence Moderns can feel sterile and brittle, leading them to replace them with Fluence Classics for a more versatile and satisfying tone.

    Source
  • Owners report that the Moderns provide clarity even in lower tunings, such as drop F# on a 7-string guitar.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Owners report that the Fluence Moderns perform excellently with amp sims like Neural DSP, retaining clarity and punch in low tunings.

    Source
  • The Moderns have a second voicing option that mimics passive pickups, offering more versatility in tone.

    Source
  • The HF tilt option rolls off high-end frequencies, which can reduce the artificial sound quality of the pickups.

    Source
  • The V1 gain reduction feature on the pickups can be activated by connecting a pole labeled V1 gain to ground, reducing gain significantly.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Fluence Moderns are highlighted for their ability to drive the blue channel of a 5150III amp without any additional overdrive or maxed-out gain settings.

    Source
  • The Fluence Moderns are criticized for a 'sterile' sound in octave playing, lacking the 'soul' found in passives.

    Source
  • The pickups excel in high-gain settings, particularly for complex metal genres, but are less suited for clean or low-gain tones.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users comparing the Fluence Moderns to EMG 57s and Seymour Duncan Blackouts note that while the Moderns offer multiple voices, they lack the aggression found in the other pickups.

    Source
  • Some users describe the Fishman Fluence Moderns as having a 'boxy' low-mid and 'nasally' midrange, similar to an EMG 85 but less consistent in different setups.

    Source
  • Compared to EMG 81s, the Fishman Fluence Moderns offer a more versatile voicing option, appealing to those who prefer a broader tonal range.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Users note inconsistency in tone when using Fluence Moderns with various amp sims and modelers, suggesting they may be EQ'd specifically for modeling setups.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Owners recommend lowering pickup height to improve articulation, especially for clearer tones in 7-string guitars with Fishman Fluence Moderns.

worse than emgs

probably the flattest most one dimensional pickup i've ever heard. it sounds like an imitation of a good pu but without any of the life in it. like a shitty amp modeler or something. I know that that is a common criticism of active pickups but these are marketed as being so much more dynamic than traditional actives. that "split" mode is a joke also. The weird thing is that i have the 6 string version of these also but they sound ten times better.
