Owner Insights

Features and functionality

  • Owners appreciate control over feedback and width, unlike the Phase 90 which offers only speed control, allowing more nuanced sound shaping.

    Source
  • The PT9 is a four-stage phaser with depth, width, and feedback controls, allowing for slow, wide phasing reminiscent of the Moog phaser.

    Source
  • The PT9's buffered bypass can unintentionally add a subtle phasing effect even when the pedal is disengaged, affecting overall tone.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users find the sound less pronounced at low volumes, suggesting it may excel in louder settings.

    Source
  • Many users find the PT9 sounds significantly better after distortion rather than before, which may be due to its buffer.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The pedal is well-suited for shoegaze music styles, as noted by fans of Deafheaven, indicating its effectiveness in creating atmospheric soundscapes.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The PT9 is not true bypass, which can result in a noticeable roll-off of high frequencies when bypassed.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The PT9 can achieve phasing sounds similar to those on early Rush albums, despite the original phaser being a 6-stage Maestro PS-1A.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners consider using a true bypass box to address the high-frequency roll-off issue when the PT9 is bypassed.

    Source
  • A clickless true bypass mod is suggested to eliminate the subtle phase effect when the PT9 is off, addressing the buffered bypass issue.

Nostalgia

This pedal was doing great for the many years I kept it. However, it deteriorated in sound quality.

Maxon would probably be worth the paycheck over this pedal.

It’s more my style since I often use it to mimic a fast Leslie speaker. Sometimes I swap this out for a Phase 100 or an Ibanez PT-9 which is great for Clash tunes with it’s higher resonance and squishier sound.
