The Jackson Guldan "Chris" Adjustomatic is a truly unique piece of American guitar history, crafted by the lesser-known yet innovative Jackson-Guldan Co. from Columbus, Ohio. Known for their dedication to quality and craftsmanship, this company offered instruments that rivaled the big brands, particularly with their distinctive neck adjustment mechanism. Unlike traditional guitars where strings are lowered for easier playability, this steel-string acoustic guitar allows the entire neck to be repositioned, making for a fascinating take on string action adjustment.
While the mechanism may appear rudimentary today, it was a bold attempt to simplify guitar setup for musicians in its time. Though it didn't catch on widely, the guitar remains playable, offering a charmingly vintage tone that's accentuated by the original Kluson Deluxe tuners, which are still intact and functioning smoothly. These tuners not only add historical value but are often sought after for vintage restorations.
The guitar's build shows no body cracks or previous repairs, a testament to its durability.
