Native Instruments VC 2A review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Native Instruments' VC 2A offers an authentic LA-2A emulation with a signature sound that's hard to beat. It's praised for its value and straightforward layout, with added features like mix blend, sidechaining, and a low-cut filter for flexibility. However, its reliance on Guitar Rig's shell for operation is a limitation, preventing standalone use. Despite this, its sound quality, especially on vocals, and useful extra features make it a commendable choice for those seeking vintage compression vibes. Overall, a solid option for those already within the Guitar Rig ecosystem.

Good, flexible, fast & warmish compressor inspired by the Teletronix LA2A

I really like the sound of the whole Vintage Compressor series from Native Instruments. I don't know if the VC 2A actually sound identical to a real Teletronix LA2A but I don't really care as it's the result/sound that counts which is really good, flexible, fast to operate and warmish.

They're actually modeled by Softube and compared to the Cakewalk LA2A, which I was using before, the VC 2A sounds much better and is more flexible; you can better control the sidechain input and can even do parallel compression.

I actually quite like the looks of the VC series as they seem to hint to what they are inspired by rather than having a photo-realistic GUI and they are quite easy to the eye. I ended up buying the whole Vintage Compressor bundle as they all have a similar "sound" to it, which I quite like.

"There are some other great plugins out there, as well. The basic Cubase compressors are always handy; the VC2A and the 160 from Native Instruments; Ozone's Multiband hasn't got huge amounts of character, but it's a very accurate and precise tool."
