Good, flexible, fast & warmish compressor inspired by the Urei 1176
I really like the sound of the whole Vintage Compressor series from Native Instruments. I don't know if the VC 76 actually sound identical to a real Urei 1176 but I don't really care as it's the result/sound that counts which is really good, flexible, fast to operate and warmish.
They're actually modeled by Softube and the VC 76 sounds extremely similar to the Softube FET; both have a useful sidechain input and both can do parallel compression. The Softube FET has a few more advanced features which I didn't feel like they justified the price.
For those interested: the FET has a more advanced sidechain (but you could achieve the same by adding an EQ), a lookahead function for even faster attacks and a nice saturation when driven hard (but when adding the free Softube Saturation plugin in front of the VC 76 it sounded very similar again).
I actually preferred the looks of the VC 76 and bought the whole Vintage Compressor bundle for less than half of the price of the FET as they all have a similar "sound" to it which I quite like.

having tried this plugin I can say its in the right ballpark and if used moderately (as I typically use a real 1176, unlike many) its near indistinguishable from the hardware - in fact a lot of the various software simualtions add the right 1176 sheen to a track and have the right attack and release feel to them until you try to overload them or do the all buttons in hard limiting trick like you would do with the hardware when trying to use it as an overt EFFECT and ot as a subtle dynamics tool as intended by Urei when they designed it to supercede the LA3 and LA4

"I'm a big fan of the 1176 compressor, um, there IS one that comes with the UAD, but for that one I kinda like more of the, uh, Native Instrument one, which is done with Softube." At 33:41, the plugin's interface is shown on-screen.
