Great studio monitors for home use
Great studio monitors. Perfect for getting that professional quality at home.

Have a friend who's looking for the "Beats by Dre" of speakers. Would these qualify? Are they flat, or do they color the sound? How's the bass?

The beats speakers would definately colour the sound, although for a while I "made do" with a pair of logitech computer speakers. As long as you can reference these with other headphones and speakers to ensure the mix is balanced and not distorted or lacking in any way, it should be ok.
