Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Genelec 8010A Extremely Compact Studio Monitors.

Comparisons

  • Many users suggest upgrading to the Genelec 8030 as it's significantly superior in low-end response compared to the 8010, making it more suitable for mixing without a subwoofer.

    Source
  • The IK iLoud MTMs are noted for integrating metal mesh covers and fitting into a Pelican 1510 case, making them a portable alternative to Genelec 8010A.

    Source
  • iLoud MTMs use DSP to boost weak bass, which can increase distortion but may still offer better mix translation than Genelec 8010A's limited low-end without DSP.

    Source
  • Auratone speakers, despite their size, are praised for their single-driver design and closed cabinet, offering short decay and detailed midrange, unlike the Genelec 8010A.

    Source
  • The iLoud MTMs, while small, offer impressive bass for their size, and some users have mistaken their bass for a subwoofer being present.

Use cases and applications

  • The 8010A monitors are often recommended for synth monitoring or mobile setups, where portability is key and headphone alternatives are less desirable.

    Source
  • The 8010A is seen as a budget-friendly option for nearfield listening, particularly effective when paired with headphones to compensate for its low-end limitations.

    Source
  • Genelec 8010A monitors are praised for their reliability and accuracy, making them ideal for mobile setups like OB vans and hotel rooms.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Users frequently pair the 8010A with a subwoofer, such as the 7040A, to address its lack of low-end, as the monitors naturally focus more on mids and highs.

    Source
  • iLoud MTMs offer built-in acoustic correction, which some users find effective in enhancing sound accuracy in less-than-ideal spaces compared to the Genelec 8010A.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report that the stereo field and imaging of the 8010A are precise, making them suitable for small spaces and hobbyist environments where larger monitors may disturb neighbors.

    Source
  • Some owners find that mixes which sound good on the 8010A monitors may not translate well to other systems, suggesting a need for additional reference sources.

    Source
  • Owners report that small speakers like the Genelec 8010A may not excite room resonances, potentially making them advantageous in untreated rooms despite lacking bass.

    Source
  • Users transitioning from Focal Alphas to iLoud MTMs find the latter more precise, especially when used in calibration mode, though this can slightly reduce musicality.

NICE MIXING TOOL

Made some good mixes on them, however they have no bass, need to be supported by headphones. One of the best set of ultra small speakers on the market. :)

formulafox

True sound Reference monitors

They produce the raw audio of your mix accurately. they are non deceptive. Compact and portable, these monitors don't take up a lot of space in my studio. They produce enough volume range that's comfortable to your ears, very smooth. I recommend pairing two genelec 8010's to an apollo twin Duo audio interface with mogami gold conduit cables!

vegaschips

Great sound! Small foot print.

These things are amazing. The Genelec 8010's out performed my expectations by far. They are a very usable small speaker. great for mix checks against my ATC SCM25a's and for my travel rig. Second to none in the small monitor category in my opinion.

If you want some good constructive criticism about your track just run it through these devils. I have learned all my mistake through these!

federicovaona

Professional sound in a extremely compact system

When I listened them, I bought them. Impressive detail and professional "Genelec" sound reference. The only problem is the bass response. Better with if you couple them with a subwoofer. But I can say they are great portable professional reference.

alton_james

Genelec Monitors

They work great in small spaces. The dynamic range is equal or better than many of great size. With the included subwoofer with the pack like I have, your set will perfectly capture the frequency spectrum--crisp sound!
