Behind my mac pro, this is my second favorite thing in my studio.
Behind my mac pro, this is my second favorite thing in my studio. The clarity to hear what is where in a mix with these things is incredible. It makes mixing a lot more intuitive and a lot less of a guessing game.

Near-field monitoring.
A pair of these are used in my home studio for near-field monitoring. They are aluminium bodied with a metal mesh over the woofer and tweeter cone to prevent electro-magnetic interference. The only input connection type is XLR, it is important to have an audio interface with BALANCED and short distance line-out/monitor-out cable run to benefit from this the most. The entire versatility of these monitors is remarkable from bass roll-off if they are placed in a corner or near to a wall, to adjustable rubber feet (air-pods) for angling and precision positioning. They have a wide sweet spot for listening which is due to the shape design, whereas most monitors are cuboid these are the optimal rounded shape for dispersing sound. After a long time of inactivity they will automatically go into standby mode until a source signal is detected. They have incredibly flat frequency response and the final point I might add is the critically dampened transient response of the cones with lower frequencies is improved greatly by the bass reflex of the speaker being in the rear not the front.

Tight active studio monitors
Workhorse for the next years. They are very clean and the bass is also very tight. Genelec has done a great job here.

The best nearfield monitors by far!
I tried many nearfield monitors. I think these sound great!

The best Monitors.
Much prefer these to KRK which are good for bass but the Genelecs detail is incredible and the bass can shake your house down. Cost about £1600 for pair though.
Tip.......KRK Rokit 6 are good for a cheap quality pair of Monitors. I have them in the living room.
mains
they sound amazing and now i have to fill this fucking useless body paragraph.

These are the best in this price-range
After a period of much reading about and listening to monitor speakers, these are the winners! Second place on my list is: Dynaudio BM12 mk3

Description
A compact studio monitor with excellent directivity and accurate sonic imaging.
The Genelec 8040A Bi-Amplified Monitoring System Boasts performance comparable to much larger systems, but in a compact package, the bi-amplified 8040A is ideal for use in many situations where a wide frequency response is needed but space is limited. Uses include nearfield monitoring, project/home studios, workstations, broadcast and TV control rooms and mobile production vehicles.
The ingenious, flow optimized, reflex port achieves clear deep bass articulation with no compression or port noises. Combined with the advanced Genelec Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) and the rounded edges and gently curved front and sides of the MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure) enclosure, the result is an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on and off axis. Other benefits include superb imaging qualities and less listening fatigue.
Carefully designed crossover filters with steep roll-off feed dedicated amplifiers for each of the low distortion drivers. The 8040A includes magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry and versatile room response controls as standard.
Each 8040A comes with an Iso-Pod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler), which eliminates coloration of the sound by decoupling the monitor from its mounting surface. The Iso-Pod also allows the speaker to be angled so that its acoustic axis points directly at the listener. For ideal mounting in differing environments, the 8040A includes integrated rear support points for floor and wall stands, with an additional M10 threaded mounting hole on the enclosure base.

These are the best monitors I have found by far, so clear and easy to mix with.
What kind of music do you make? Ever feel the need to use a sub with them?
I produce electro house etc. I know what you mean, there is an urge to get a sub to go with them, but they're perfectly fine as they are to mix great tracks with!
I had the 8040Bs but felt like I needed more bass, so exchanged them for KRK RP8s. Would be nice to have both :)
I didn't like the krk's too much, although they did have a lot more bass yeah, they just didn't sound as good as the genelec's for me :p I use my Tannoy speakers to compare the tracks, the bass in them is very clear
