Critic Reviews

Roland RD-800 stage piano review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Roland RD-800 is a powerhouse stage piano, earning high marks for its stellar acoustic and electric piano sounds, as well as its excellent keyboard feel. The instrument is praised for its comprehensive front panel, intuitive controls, and a display that is easy to read under various lighting conditions. The RD-800's Live Sets feature offers powerful yet simple sound editing and organization, making it a versatile choice for professional musicians. While the order of zone volume sliders may take some getting used to, and there is no aftertouch transmission, these are minor drawbacks. Overall, the RD-800 is a top-class choice for those seeking a high-end stage piano.

positive

Roland RD800

soundonsound.com

Roland's RD-800 shines as a stage piano with top-tier acoustic and electric piano emulations, offering a warm, engaging sound that stands out from its competitors. The PHA4 keyboard action is exceptional, and the instrument boasts a myriad of high-quality sounds. However, its 16-channel architecture feels outdated, and its MIDI controller capabilities fall short. Editing is limited, and some features, like the organ emulation, lack depth. Despite these drawbacks, the RD-800 excels in its primary role, providing an enjoyable and high-quality playing experience, making it a compelling choice for performers.

positive

Roland RD-800 Review

musictech.com

The Roland RD-800 is a fantastic stage piano that excels in live performance. Its standout features include breathtaking acoustic and electric piano sounds, a responsive 88-key weighted PHA-4 concert keyboard, and extensive effects controls that enhance creativity during performances. The inclusion of features like USB connectivity and onboard sound editing tools make it versatile for modern musicians. However, while the pianos and electric pianos are exceptional, other sounds like organs and strings are less impressive, serving more as functional extras. Overall, the RD-800 is praised for its playability, sound quality, and performance-focused design, making it a top choice for serious musicians.

One of the best!

I've played a bunch of keyboards in my day and I can honestly say this is one of my favorite pianos. The only other keyboard I've played that comes close is Yamaha's CP88. The keys feel so realistic, it has midi control, eq options, thousands of presets, and the price is quite reasonable for what you're getting compared to other keyboards. If you're thinking of getting a keyboard I recommend this or the Yamaha if feel and sound is important to you.

rd 800 piano and live hourse

quit good Pianosounds. missing overtones and real overtones sustain playing mid til upper mid notes. too woody sounds a bid. Tweaking demanded. i use dx15 equilizer to modify the slightly wood dump sound up. Much betterr then interior one. All over very good keybed and key surface. Strings could be warmer in sound. Brass as well a bid. Mixing sounds gives warm rich structure on piano and other instruments like strings or epiano. Epi sounds are very good and dynakic. Blue dynamic epi knpb really cool. All over high valid instrument whcih almost is fun to play. Overlaying is not that fast and not Fully logical to program. Old ones have been beter from 700 layering. Very good live keyboard in band. Synth sounds are not bad but not really moogy or arpy. All over high valid professional instrument any piano and good kb player loves and never gives away that fast. Good amplfication and mixer is important to couple w rd800. M

Amazing sounds but hard action

Amazing sounds (especially the concert grand and EPs) but hard action. Would recommend testing to see if it fits with your playing style.

futuretunes

The hammer action is delightful, a real joy to play.
