“They’re the all-in-one stop for what I'm looking for”: Seymour Duncan debuts signature Blackouts for Trivium’s Corey Beaulieu, treating its active metal humbucker to a distinct sonic twist | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

Seymour Duncan's Damocles Corey Beaulieu Signature Blackouts deliver a powerful sonic punch tailored for metal guitarists, providing enhanced aggression and clarity that cuts through any mix. Corey's input on the EQ design results in pickups that excel in both high-gain chugging and cleaner tones. However, the price point may deter budget-conscious players, with single pickups starting at $145. While they shine in aggressive settings, the hefty cost could be a sticking point for some musicians looking for value. Overall, these pickups represent a solid investment for serious players seeking versatile tone options.

I miss them

I was able to get the Damocles set in a Spira V500, and I really miss them. I was getting closer to the sound I wanted; at least I had a great foundation. But the V500 just didn’t work for me at all. My guitar tech had cut the pickup wires very short, so I had to part with the set along with the guitar—since I’m not at all handy, I didn’t want to take any chances. I feel like we’re in the same sonic philosophy as the DMT Ascension, but with more clarity, presence, balance, and compression. The highs are crisp and the mids are present but not nasal. In my opinion, these active pickups have very few flaws. If you love heavy palm mutes and well-articulated shredding, these are for you. I’d personally get them again...
