Features and functionality

    Source

    Source
  • Owners frequently replace the stock ceramic pickups with budget loaded alnico pickguards and suggest Wilkinson bridges for improved sound quality.

    Source
  • An owner upgraded with EMG HZ pickups (H3, S3, S4) and a black aluminum HSS pickguard, significantly enhancing the guitar at a cost three times its original price.

    Source

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The SSS configuration works well for moderate distortion genres like classic rock, blues, and clean styles like jazz, funk, and country.

    Source
  • The stock pickups lack definition and are weakly voiced, which can be a limiting factor for players requiring more robust tones.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Alternative options like the Cort KX100 are recommended for metal within a similar budget due to its better pickup configuration.

    Source

Build quality

  • The Squier Debut Series Stratocaster features usable tuners and decent fretwork, although the neck frets are not rolled or polished.

Critic Reviews

Fender’s Squier Debut Stratocaster took the fight to cheap Amazon guitars when it arrived earlier this year – now it’s dropped below $100 for the first time ever | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

An incredibly affordable entry into the world of electric guitars, the Squier Debut Stratocaster is not just a budget-friendly option; it's a legitimate contender in the beginner guitar market. Priced under $100 during Cyber Weekend, it’s perfect for new players, offering a solid build, comfortable neck, and the signature Strat sound that many aspire to. However, while the ceramic pickups get the job done, they may leave more seasoned players wanting for richer tones. Overall, if you’re just starting out and have a tight budget, the Debut Stratocaster offers great value, but expect to upgrade components as you progress.

Amazing

First guitar. Set up amazingly right out of the box. Almost completely smooth frets, perfect intonation, incredible tuning stability (I can divebomb with this thing so many times and it does not detune). I definitely got my money's worth.
