Hands On: ’61 Reserve by SVL | GuitarTonePro

guitartonepro.com

The SVL Custom Guitars SVL 61 Reserve shines with its near-vintage tone and stunning aesthetics, becoming a new favorite for the reviewer. While the relic job might seem overdone and the neck arrived slightly misaligned, these issues were easily corrected. The guitar's lightweight feel, comfortable neck, and exceptional electronics, particularly the volume and tone pots, enhance its playability and sound. The Mark Foley ’59 Reserve v.2 pickups closely mimic vintage tones, outperforming previous favorites like the PRS Silver Sky. Despite minor cosmetic quirks, this guitar is a standout instrument, prompting the reviewer to consider selling other guitars in favor of this new number one.

‘61 Reserve from Simon Law | GuitarTonePro

guitartonepro.com

Simon Law's SVL 61 Reserve is a vintage-style masterpiece that brilliantly melds old-world guitar charm with modern reliability. Revered by blues elites like Robbin Ford, it offers master-built quality at a feasible price point. The guitar's premium features, such as a Katalox fingerboard and custom Mark Foley pickups, promise exceptional tone and playability. However, the 9-month waiting period due to Law's commitments might test your patience. If you can endure the wait, it’s a rewarding investment.

Fantastic approach to the true vintage feel

A real strat that rivals a good vintage strat from the early 60s. Fine fingerboard, beautiful Mark Foley pickups, beautiful steel hardware and very resonant.

Not much to criticize and many a custom shop has finally played out.
