Description
An all-in-one pedal with a tube amplifier emulator and four essential effects just like the rig Kotzen plays himself.
The Richie Kotzen Signature RK5 Fly Rig is not simply another version of the Fly Rig 5 with his name screened on it. The RK5 was developed in close collaboration with Richie, whose input was invaluable. Meticulous about every facet of his playing, singing, songwriting and tone, Richie’s attention to the details of this pedal was nothing less. For the bulk of his 2014 tour with the Winery Dogs, Richie used the final prototype while we were busy getting everything lined up for production. Richie is also using the prototype for his 2015 solo tour.
While Richie primarily uses his RK5 live in conjunction with his standard amp rig, this sleek, compact unit embodies an entire rig on its own. At its heart, is the all-analog SansAmp, which makes it possible to go direct to a PA or mixer. For effects, you have the essentials: a reverb, a delay with tap tempo, a powerful boost, and Richie’s Signature OMG overdrive.
For fly gigs across the globe, jamming at the local hang, and last minute sessions, you’ll be the first one ready to go. You can stop stressing over what to pack and agonizing over what to leave behind. You can stop dreading cheesy backline loaners and overheating at the mere thought of your touring rig going down. Just pop your RK5 into your guitar case and head for the door.

Great portable bare bones rig solution
Great solution to have on the go as a musician who gigs a lot. I've plugged straight into FOH, in front of a tube amp, in the effects return of a tube amp and into a Tech 21 Power Engine 60. The amp sim is surprisingly good and even takes other pedals, having a simple reverb is a nice touch. The boost is killer, the delay and tap tempo is fantastic. The OMG in my experience using it kind of gets lost in the mix if you push the gain past 9 o'clock, I'd recommend using it in lighter setting with the volume really cranked. Getting the OMG to higher gain levels oversaturated the drive and in a mix you get lost pretty immediately. back to the Delay sounds, it can get a little gnarly if you pump too much gain into it. I've used it for worship gigs many, many times and the unit does deliver. It's my backup rig in case my main rig goes down.
There are a few downsides however. You can't turn the CabSim off at all with this model, and sometimes it doesn't sound great when plugged in front on an amp, at least in my experience of it. Wish it had an XLR Line out to go direct. When I went front of house with this thing for a gigs, I had to use a house DI. Which isn't terrible by any means but what if I were playing at a gig that didn't have a DI on hand? I heard the newer versions fixed these issues. Even with the negatives I would still Highly recommend one of these. It will save your ass at a gig in case your main rig goes down.
