Pretty useful and decent when in need of multiple FX on a small budget.
The POD HD500X is a vital part of my live rig at the moment as I'm currently jobless and can't afford all the pedals that I'm sure a lot of us want. Honestly, it can definitely do it's job and then some when it comes to it's FX you run in the loop such as reverb, delays and modulation but I've never been a huge fan of the OD's, gates or compressors on the unit. Don't get me wrong, they're not horrible, but I would certainly pick an OD808 over any of the OD's on here.
As far as the amp modelling goes, I'm really not a big fan of it at all. Although I currently run the POD in the 4 Cable Method with my Marshall JVM 410 or the 6505+ I occasionally use live, I have spent a lot of time meddling with the amp modelling and emulation. I find it isn't too bad if you're running it with a power amp and then into a cab, as sometimes I do that at rehearsal and don't mind the results, but I cannot find myself liking it when it is run direct to the desk. I have done this plenty of times before, when I first bought the POD, and once when I had a last minute failure with my Marshall before a gig. I find the tones to be quite stale and bland, and that's regardless of my patches or somebody elses.
But all in all, I think if you're a gigging guitarist looking to introduce some effects into your tone but you're on a budget; This is certainly the way to go. Fabulous unit for the price point and is built to last. Would also recommend for any bedroom guitarist looking to play around, learn how to use and learn what they like in terms of FX before spending big bucks on the boutique pedals!

Cool Design, Crappy Build Quality
While I think for the money of (similar to my hummingbird) around 200 dollars used was worth it by far, but the build quality is relatively shotty in certain areas. The foot pedal is held onto the hinges with some sort of cheap plastic, so the thing just kinda snapped off. I have gobs of superglue holding it together now. This works, but not perfect and is only a fix for someone not wanting to spend lots of money on new gear haha!

Use with a good power amp and cab and it's amazing.
If you know how to dial a tone, this can do ANYTHING. Not quite up to the level of a helix, axe fx or kemper, but in a band mix they're nearly indistinguishable (again, if you're good with dialling tones). I use it with a power amp and a 2x12 cab loaded with V30's and it ROARS. It was between this and an Axe-FX ultra and this was on equal footing with it. I picked this because of the floor pedal form factor. Setting up my rig takes exactly one minute. It's built like a tank and I can see myself having it for many years to come.

Just awesome
As someone on a budget, and having no effects to play with I was looking at the best tools for every job. But as a progressive player it looked like i was going to need the whole strymon catalog. Incomes the POD HD500x. After listening to Twelve Foot Ninja and seeing just wat they could do with te line 6 technology i felt it was worth a try, and at the price of 4-5 branded effects pedals, Could it go wrong? The effects are amazing and the amps aint bad for playing round with. Definitly the option for those who want to play round on a budget.
Complete, flexible, and with great sound
Three years after purchasing it, I continue to discover options and features that allow me a great versatility, a wide range of effects, amplifiers, cabinets, and microphones. Not even the existence of Helix has overshadowed the incredible flexibility that this equipment has, undoubtedly the best in its range.

Amazing for my church gigs
When I compare this to how much I've spent on my traditional pedalboard I've been assembling for the last decade...this thing blows my mind. Not top of the line but no complaints here, I've been using Line 6 since 2005.

Incredibly versatile
For The Wedding Singer, I opted for a no-amp setup, for ease of touring and for creating the vast variety of different guitar sounds the show demands. The Pod is the centre of it all, and it does a wonderful job. The PC software was an absolute life-saver for quickly tweaking patches in tech, and the thing is built like a tank. Massively recommended.

Great tool for the gigging musician and heavy FX users
It's a great way of having a whole roster of very good tones for an affordable price. It won't compete with AxeFX or Helix, but it definitely has the power to be the brain of any rig.

"Line 6 is at the cutting edge of creative guitar technology. They empower guitarists with tools to make sounds that the masters of the psychedelic era could only dream of! Now, we can not only emulate the sounds of the past, but we can create contemporary and futuristic sounds. I have a James Tyler Variax guitar, POD 500 and consistently use the M9 stompbox modeler which gives me access to literally hundreds of unique pedals and effects, and allows me to have extraordinary control. I also make loops using its built-in world class looper. Its exciting to think of what Line 6 will build next!"
In an instagram livestream Chris says that he uses a Line 6 multi FX unit for gigging and in this photo you can see him using the HD500 (not 500X). It's also seen very briefly at about 2:10 in Peach Pit's doc part 1.

My signal runs from my custom PRS into a Kemper Profiler head and a PRS Stealth 2x12 cabinet. As you can see, right now it’s on the JCM 800 Drive preset. I’m using a Line 6 Pod HD500X as a MIDI controller for the Kemper. I have a bank setup for each song. Take “Nightmare.” I’ve got my basic heavy sound, one that’s slightly louder, and one with a wah on it, which I manipulate via the HD500X’s footpedal.
Replying to a fan's tweet, Carl says he uses a Line 6 POD HD500X rather than an amp.
It's not an amp actually ... You can get any tone you want with it.
