In interview done with Music Radar, Bettencourt says. “The pedalboard that I’m using... well, I’m not much on effects anyway, and with Extreme it’s always about the real minimalistic approach. "Even though it’s a multi-effects unit, I use four patches for 90 percent of the songs. There’s just a plain one, then a little bit of chorus on another one for all the chorus hooks that I play on. "The third patch is like a solo boost - more for the volume and adding delay for the solo. The fourth is always a flanger. I just use that to go to for ‘vibe’ when I feel like that. That’s all that I really have on there. other than a few delay changes, that’s basically it.”more
"I use this in conjunction with a Boss GT8 floor effects unit. I am still using the Boss GT8 for studio and stage work: it's most especially handy for when I work in Europe as I have the unit programmed for all my favourite sounds. Of course, as we are never sure which amplifiers we will be given at any one gig, believe me it is a very useful tool as at least I get to keep my own sounds regardless of what type or make of amplifier."more

Double your power with BOSS’s new GT-8 floor-based mega processor. Loaded with twin COSM modeling engines, it brings unprecedented performance and tonal control to the stage and studio. The Dual COSM amp section provides two discrete amp channels; you can layer and manipulate each engine independently to create wildly expressive sounds. Thanks to the Solo Switch function, lead sounds can be immediately activated — perfect for ripping through the mix. BOSS’s mega-popular GT-6 was a smash hit with guitarists, now the GT-8 is destined to become the go-to box for gigging and recording guitarists alike.
compared to sinlge effects you can get one or two good pedals or the gt8 with many mediocre sounds but you can also switch channel of your tubeamp with it and only use post effects ... that is the best use for it imo
I've never been much into guitar floor processors, but at certain point I needed to get something cool, functional and well sounding. All my searching and previous experience led to getting the GT-8. I recorded my whole first album with it, with no amps or additional plugins and stuff, except some minor EQ interventions. People still ask me how I got this kickass sound. I think it's enough said :)
