Description

The Univox SR-55 is a preset drum machine that was simultaneously released in Japan as the Korg Minipops 3 and licensed in the US as the Univox SR-55 in 1969. The unit was encased in a solid plywood box with vinyl covering, complete with carry handle, in a vinyl bag cover, with a foot switch also provided. Retail price in the USA was around US $225 in 1971. The unit was also badged under license as the Aria Diamond in a white livery. In the UK it was sold under the Contessa brand name and was advertised for 113 GBP in 1974. Patterns: 20 - Foxtrot, Swing, Rock 1-4, Ballad, Western, Bossa Nova 1-2, Tango, Habanera, Rhumba, Beguine, Mambo, Cha-cha, Samba, Baion and Waltz 1-2. Instruments: Bass Drum, Large and Small Bongos, Conga, Claves, Cowbell, Maracas, Snare Drum and Cymbal. Controls: There are dials labelled A-F for Brush Cymbal selection, and Bass/Snare Drum selection (providing 36 variations of rhythm for Foxtrot and Swing only). Next to these are two small dials for Power/Volume and Tone, and a large dial for Tempo. The Far right has a white rectangular Start/Stop switch, and above is a red downbeat indicator lamp. The bottom row of 10 patterns is accessed by two white and red dot selector switches, red being the lower row of 10 patterns. The rear of the unit has high and low impedance audio outputs.
