Gear Review: Valeton GP-150 and GP-180 Reviews - Bass Musician Magazine, The Face of Bass

bassmusicianmagazine.com

Valeton's GP-180 and GP-150 offer a compelling choice for musicians seeking flexibility and control. The GP-180 delivers a pedalboard-like experience with its direct effect block buttons and additional footswitch, making it ideal for live performances. Meanwhile, the GP-150 shines with its compact design and built-in expression pedal, catering to players who value expression in a streamlined setup. Both units boast a robust sound engine, with improved octave tracking for bass players and a versatile range of effects, making them suitable for various applications from practice to live gigs. However, while the GP-180 could feel more traditional, the GP-150 might not suffice for those needing extensive on-the-fly adjustments. Overall, these pedals impress with their user-oriented design and sound quality.

Great little Multi-Effects unit

Big update here. So I really dig this unit, if you have used the GP-200 or really any of the GP products this thing is pretty cool. It's basically an HX stomp version of the 200. Allows you to load NAM amp profiles (converted into Valeton "Snaptones") and Cabs/IR's separately (which puts it ahead of the GP-5 and 50) just like the 200. The effects/amp selection is pretty good, not as expansive as the 200 but not bad by any means. The amp sounds are good, not earth shattering, compared them to my Helix and HX Stomp and while the Helix models sound better, it's not drastic. The UI on the unit is pretty easy to use, the buttons to help you navigate to effects are clutch in my opinion. Getting it setup to the software and app are also super easy to do. I have some opinions I need expressed with this unit though, like, firstly there is a bug in the windows software where you can't upload your own IR's, an error comes up every time for me. I looked at the firmware version to make sure everything was up to date, and it was, but for some reason the editor wouldn't upload any of my IR's. I could easily do it on the app though. The connections are fine for what this unit is, but I feel it really needs an effects loop to take it over the top. The Snaptone profiles and cabs feel kind of lacking to me? I feel like this entirely depends on the NAM capture, because not all captures are made equally of course. Honestly if I compared the NAM amp profiles to my favorite stock amps in my Helix and HX Stomp, I feel that the OG Line 6 Helix stock amps just sounded better to my ears. This is still a bang for the buck unit and I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get into the multi-effects game.
