Critic Reviews

Waves Maxxbass

soundonsound.com

Waves MaxxBass delivers a powerful punch for mixes, especially when tailored for small speaker playback. Its intuitive interface allows users to enhance bass perception without adding extra low frequencies. Ideal for multimedia and gaming soundtracks, it shines on limited-bandwidth systems. However, mixes optimized for small speakers risk sounding boxy on full-range systems. Despite requiring careful setup, MaxxBass excels in adding depth and power, making it a valuable tool for specialized audio projects.

Review: Pump Up the Bass with MaxxBass by Waves : Ask.Audio

ask.audio

Waves MaxxBass offers an innovative approach to boosting bass in mixes without muddying the low end. Utilizing psychoacoustic principles, it generates harmonics that trick the brain into perceiving deeper bass frequencies, which is ideal for mixes on small speakers or low-end systems. While it doesn't actually increase bass frequencies, it effectively fattens the mix, making it an essential tool for mixing engineers who want to maintain clarity. However, it might not satisfy those looking for genuine low-frequency enhancements. Overall, it's a clever solution for modern playback challenges, earning a thumbs up for its unique functionality.

Amazing low end enhancer

This plugin adds a bass tone to any source that is incredibly smooth and round sounding and absolutely great for bass lines that just need that extra sub push.

jimmarchi1

its actually a higher harmonics, not sub harmonics bass added, helps it cut on small systems.... try it on non bass isntruments to add upper midrange weight. Interesting on hip hop vocals for instance.

"As software processing goes, I like the Waves processing plug-ins and I have used their Maxx Bass to reprocess an album I recorded that I felt was lacking at the bass end, probably due to my monitoring environment at the time. I'm from the old school of outboard gear so I particularly like their Renaissance-series plug-ins and their new convolution reverb is just incredible. I use virtual effects much more than virtual instruments."

"When I was doing Let Go with Frou Frou, the whole bass sound on that song was heavily processed through MaxxBass. It has this dinky little preset called PC Laptop to try and make your bass sound like it's going to sound good on really weedy little speakers." - at 16:30 in the Waves webinar with Guy Sigsworth
