Founded in 1992 by Gilad Keren and Meir Sha'ashua in Tel Aviv, Israel, Waves is the world's leading developer of audio plugins and digital signal processing tools for music production, mixing, mastering, live sound, and broadcast. The company released the audio industry's first commercially available plugin — the Q10 Paragraphic Equalizer — and followed it with landmark products like the L1 Ultramaximizer, which became a defining tool in modern mastering. In 2011, Waves received a Technical Grammy Award for contributions of outstanding technical significance to the recording field.

Waves offers one of the largest catalogs of professional audio plugins available, spanning equalizers, compressors, reverbs, delays, virtual instruments, and surround sound tools. The company is known for its licensed emulations of classic hardware, including the SSL 4000 Collection (developed under license from Solid State Logic) and the Abbey Road series. Waves also produces signature plugin lines developed with renowned engineers and producers such as Chris Lord-Alge (the CLA series), Eddie Kramer, Manny Marroquin, and Butch Vig. Beyond plugins, Waves develops the SoundGrid real-time audio processing platform for live sound, as well as Waves Maxx audio enhancement technology found in consumer electronics from manufacturers like Dell and Sony.

Waves has 317 products cataloged on Equipboard, including FX Bundle Plugins, Compressor Plugins, and Utility Plugins. Their gear is featured by 524 artists, with the strongest followings in Electronic, Pop, and Rock. Notable users include Jonas Blue, Guy Sigsworth, and WATCHMAN. Most Waves products sit on the budget-friendly end of the spectrum.
