Description

"The Yamaha ERG121 is firmly in the super strat mould with a basswood strat style body with deep cut-aways for easy access to the upper frets. The body is nicely contoured, as you would expect from the style of guitar, which makes the guitar comfortable to hold and play.... There is a re-assuring feel to the guitar, it is not too heavy but you know that there is sufficient weight to it which provides a re-assuring sense of quality...The 22 fret bolt on neck is made from maple and is topped with a rosewood fingerboard...In terms of electrics this is where things start to get interesting! The Yamaha ERG121 comes armed with two humbuckers and a single coil. The humbuckers are in the bridge and neck position with the single coil in the middle position. The full set of pickups options are accessed through a 5 position selector switch and there are a master volume and tone dials to give you excellent control of the sound coming out of the guitar. The combination of the humbuckers and single coil pick-ups gives this guitar real versatility. Equally at home with blues, rock or metal if you are looking for a guitar that gives you a wide tonal output then the Yamaha ERG121 has few challengers. Factor in the price and this guitar is head and shoulders above the competition!" Top-Guitars review 2014.

ERG121 Review: This includes the lower end models of popular guitar makers like... | Yamaha | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

For beginners on a budget, the Yamaha ERG121 offers impressive value. Its narrow neck and durable build make it a standout among entry-level guitars. While the pickups and glossy finish hint at its low price, the guitar holds its own against pricier models. With some minor tweaks, it competes well with, and even surpasses, other starter guitars like Fender Squires and Ibanez Gios. Despite a few quirks, such as an imperfect 5-way switch and a slightly flimsy input jack, its reliability over the years is commendable. Perfect for novices or as a reliable backup, the ERG121 is a hidden gem.

ERG121 Review | Yamaha | Electric Guitars | Reviews @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

ultimate-guitar.com

The Yamaha ERG121 is a solid entry-level electric guitar, ideal for beginners venturing into rock and metal genres. While it's praised for its affordability and decent overdrive sound, it falls short in clean tones and overall build quality compared to pricier models. Its versatility accommodates a range of styles, but seasoned players might feel limited as they progress. Despite some minor design flaws, such as the patch cord placement, it offers good value for its price. Ultimately, a decent starter guitar, but don't expect miracles beyond its league.

Consistently My Main Guitar

Originally belonging to my dad, who gave it to me when I started playing guitar after going pretty much untouched for quite a while, and it is still my main guitar years later. It's definitely the easiest to play out of everything that I own, the neck is slim, enough material to grasp onto but with zero excess, it's quite light, especially in comparison to my Westfield Les Paul clone which weighs down on me after standing with it for too long and the forearm contour makes it very cosy for my picking hand.

Certain things have been modified, such as the pots, but I find the stock bridge humbucker on this notably nice, great for stuff that's sludgy and chuggy, but it also has a lot of clarity to it. This is also currently my only guitar set up with a HSH configuration and a 5-way switch, and I definitely like having all those tonal options, especially for music that is on the mellower side of things.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Typically in my main tuning, Drop C, however there are plenty of other tunings this has been in, this currently covers everything from 1 step down to 2 step down, and other tunings I use in that range include D Standard, Drop B, C Standard, AGCFAD, GGCFGC, CGCFG#C, CGCFA#C and plenty more.

Great Value For The Money

This thing is awesome. I got as a gift from my grandpa and its pretty stunning. It dosent look like much but when you plug it in its suprisingly good. It also holds tuning extremly well (for having a cheap tremolo and cheap tuners) Right now its my drop A guitar.
