Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Access Virus TI2 Keyboard.

Features and functionality

  • The Access Virus TI2 offers 16-part multitimbrality, allowing for complex sound stacking and layered patches, but full polyphony across all parts may not be achievable.

    Source
  • Playing the demo song can help test DSP stability; crashes may suggest firmware issues rather than hardware faults, useful for price negotiations.

    Source

Build quality

  • Owners describe the Virus TI2 as being built like a tank with an excellent Fatar keybed, considered among the best non-weighted keyboards available.

    Source
  • It's noted that the DSPs in the Virus TI2 are overclocked, potentially contributing to sporadic stability issues without affecting overall performance.

    Source
  • The Virus TI keybed, particularly on the Polar model, is highly praised for its exceptional feel, often cited as superior to many newer synths.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The TI software is reported to work fine on Windows 11, with some users recommending a Max4Live controller device for improved integration with Ableton.

    Source
  • The Ostirus emulator is highlighted as a good alternative for those unable to afford the hardware, with the caveat that it can be a resource-intensive VST.

    Source

User experience

  • Many users appreciate the Virus TI2 for its unique control surface layout, which provides a more satisfying programming experience compared to software alternatives.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Despite being discontinued and unsupported, the Virus TI2 retains high resale value, often seen as a worthwhile investment by enthusiasts.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Replacing the internal battery is advised after saving RAM banks to a computer, ensuring continued performance and memory retention.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Hydrasynth's keybed, while decent, is described as having a shallow and plastic feel compared to the luxurious Fatar keybed of the Virus TI2.

    Source
  • The Hydrasynth offers advantages like CV outputs for modular gear and a versatile mod matrix, but its keybed is not as highly regarded as the Virus TI's.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Owners use the Virus keybed primarily for playing instruments that lack polyphonic aftertouch, like mono synths, Mellotrons, and pianos.

The best Sound and great implementation to a DAW

Excellent sound and extremely flexible. You can do anything you can imagine with this synth.

The plugin makes the implementation to your DAW and you can have up to 16 channels of sound.

The keyboard runs smooth very smooth.

Even if this gear is some years old now.....it is still one of the best.

The rumours are true.

It's the best.

Fab supersaws. Beautiful pads. Any kind of bass you can imagine. Plucks to die for. On board fxs take some beating. Works seamlessly with Logic. Signal path is traditional, straight forward, easy to get to grips with. The presets are incredible. I found the Kb manual really helpful when learning about synthesis. The Kb sounds more analog to me.

jimmarchi1

The guy who owned the studio I learned at had a 1st edition access virus from the late 90s and THAT was badass, so the current stuff must be impressive.

moonlab

I've never heard a 1st edition so I can't compare but the Kb definitely sounds more analog where the TI2 is more digital, more precise. I've got a super saw patch that I programmed, sort of like the LD in RAMsterdam (the Deynhoven remix) and it stil cuts through the mix and beats anything on Sylenth (which I also love) and Massive. It could just be my lack of skill on those two fab soft synths . . . Or maybe I'm just biased ????. Your gear is amazing, by the way.

Best digital analog ever

This synthesizer is simply amazing - although it's digital analog, it sounds very deep and has plenty options of processing the sound in it.
