Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Access Virus TI2 Polar.

Features and functionality

  • The Virus TI2 offers a wide timbral range with extensive wavetables and FM synthesis, complemented by highly praised effects and polyphony.

    Source
  • The TI2 supports separate effects per part, enhancing multitimbral setups compared to earlier models which share effects across parts.

    Source
  • The Virus TI2 offers a 9 voice unison hypersaw, a standout feature for creating rich, layered sounds in live and studio settings.

    Source
  • The Access Virus TI2 can perform wavetable and granular synthesis, but detailed mapping requires a laptop due to the limited screen size.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The TI2 is particularly praised for its unique presets and morphing capabilities, providing sounds that are distinct and inspiring for creative work.

    Source
  • The Virus TI2 is seen as a centerpiece for setups, reducing DAW dependency and providing a wide range of expressive sounds beyond its perceived narrow scope.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report that while the Virus TI2 and C sound similar when using the same settings, the TI2's additional features justify its premium price.

    Source
  • Owners highlight the TI2’s ability to create complex textures with wide stereo-spread unison as a standout feature.

    Source
  • The TI2's keybed is highly praised for its tactile quality, contributing to a more musical and engaging experience compared to other synths.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Virus TI2 units in Australia consistently sell for over $2000 AUD, offering better resale value compared to Virus B and C models that fluctuate significantly.

    Source
  • Some users question the high price of the TI2, suggesting alternatives like the UDO Super 6 or Waldorf Iridium at similar price points.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The TI2 maintains polyphony better than the C in unison patches, allowing more simultaneous timbres without reducing voice count significantly.

    Source
  • The Virus B and C share algorithms, with the C having a slightly more powerful DSP for more voices; TI2 offers additional oscillator models utilizing a larger DSP jump.

    Source
  • The TI2’s modulation features are less advanced compared to modern synths like the Waldorf Iridium and Hydrasynth.

    Source
  • The Virus TI2's hypersaw is likened to Roland's supersaw, with the Virus offering broader capabilities except in this specific aspect.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The Aura Plugins virus editor is a modern alternative that successfully integrates USB audio with modern Mac OS, enhancing compatibility and ease of use.

    Source
  • The TI2’s support is outdated, especially on modern Macs, with third-party solutions required for proper integration.

    Source
  • A known issue involves USB integration challenges, often leading owners to opt for software like DSP56300 for a seamless experience without hardware frustrations.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Connecting the TI2 directly to a laptop, instead of through a USB hub, resolves many integration issues with DAWs like Ableton.

My first hardware synth

I had some issues with the Total Integration process via USB, lots of delay and after a few tracks the things starts to go crazy so I decided to use it in a classic Midi I/O setup via a midi interface I use it as a master and slave at the same time (in sequencer mode, go to config menu and disable Local playback then on your DAW assign a midi track to your midi interface corresponding to your synth) You can make almost everything you want with this synth, it's a little bit pricy for a non analog synth but for me it has been the best investment I've made for music production

rightonrussell

The best non-analog synthesizer out there, IMHO

I often use this synth along with an additional midi controller to extend the number of keys. I can then have up to 16 simultaneous voices going on, which comes in handy for my Jamiroquai Tribute band.

Excellent piece of kit

I've had the virus since it hit the market and I think it is a wonderful, deep and fulfilling synthesizer. I love the deep and rich sounds it can produce and have used ti extensively with ambient music an D&B works

Trance heaven

Built like a tank. Knobs have a very nice feeling to them. The sound is marvelous to certain extents. It does whatever I throw at it. And when it does, it does very good. Can't imagine my setup without it.

In an undated interview with Steelberry Clones, Daniel B. of Front 242 discussed his progression in music tech over the years:

According to Daniel – they wanted to maximize the experience, and be analog as far as they could. Together the trio has a huge set of gear and as Daniel puts it: “Why not use them?”. So apart from the song “Brush”, which was not analog at all, actually it is not even synths – Brush was more about looping in a delay, Nothing But Noise features synths like the Virus Polar and the Juno 16 a lot. Although he let us know that on future releases it will be a more mixed environment. “We are always working on new stuff”, says Daniel – meaning that we can expect more Nothing But Noise productions going forward.
