Beat Kangz Beat Thang

soundonsound.com

The Beat Thang impresses with its military-grade build, vibrant blue illumination, and robust RAM and storage, making it a promising portable sampler. However, it falters with a sluggish workflow, frequent loading delays, and software instability. While it offers a rich palette of drum samples, the lack of individual outputs and incomplete software hampers its potential. The integration with its virtual counterpart is also lacking. Although it has great hardware potential, the Beat Thang feels unfinished, making it difficult to fully recommend at this stage.

Beat Kangz Beat Thang review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Beat Thang impresses with robust build quality and a capable sequencer/sampler, making it a solid option for hip-hop producers. However, it suffers from workflow and operating system issues that hinder its potential. Despite its strong sampling capabilities and flexible pattern mode, the user interface is plagued by awkward controls and a lack of essential features like step editing. While the sound quality of the onboard kits excels, some instruments sound over-processed. At £799, it promises innovation with its Linux-based OS, but needs significant updates to be a must-buy.

I love this as a midi contoller but the plugin integration and portable use is lacking. If you are a hiphop producer you couldn't ask for more. But as a dubstep producer it doesn't work well while recording finger drumming; it seems to quantize at maximuim even while quantize settings are set to off.
