My first MPC and I'm a fan.
I bought this thing a few years back and took my sweet a$$ time learning how to use it. I'm glad I did because it is well worth the learning curve. The thing is a beast. There is so much functionality in this box that it will take some time to learn all of what it does.
I can see why the MPC platform has made such a mark on music. It's a powerful enabler for getting your ideas from your imagination into the world.

Exactly what I needed
Moving from the Roland SP-606, the MPC One has become the brain in my studio. I prefer having all the dedicated buttons as opposed to the Live II but I do wish I had at least another stereo I/O, but I can make it work. I think I'll eventually move up to the X for more control (16 Q links) and more I/O's. Love the MPC workflow. Don't need battery as this unit would only leave my studio for a live setup (which I would want to plug in anyway). Time stretching could be improved on, I can work around that by doing that in my mixer before sampling into it but it would be nice to have a proper time stretcher without getting digital artifacts when stretching more than 10-20 bpm's. That said, I don't really have gripes, this is a definite upgrade from my previous stand alone sampler.
UPDATE: Time stretching has vastly improved with their new update.

great write-up. I'm surprised to hear the time-stretch isn't up to standards of other products, that's a drag.

thanks, the time stretch ins't a big deal to me, I'm used to and prefer doing it thru my mixer anyway, and the time stretch on the sp-606 was even worse, but I had my work arounds. I think it'll be updated in the future, they did one updated recently that made it better but it still could be improved upon. if your working within 10 or so bpm's its perfectly fine, its when you start going more than that when you notice the limitation.

Incredible
I love this machine and it offers so much in one package. The learning curve is a bit but once you get it. Its a done deal. A must have in your studio setup. What I love about it is the plug ins, instruments, and the sampling capabilities. The pads are responsive and you get a lot for your money.

I'm an MPC fanboy and I'm in love with this machine
This machine has replaced the computer in my study. Now I only use my computer for sound design. Everything else I can do in MPC One. Its construction is very good, the machine is light and its power is great. It is without a doubt the best gear purchase I have ever made.
