Immerse yourself in an ever-evolving sonic universe with the Elektron Syntakt. This 12-track powerhouse is more than just a drum computer; it's a synthesizer that hybridizes analog and digital synthesis into an instrument of vast musical potential. With its compact size, the Syntakt is a portable music mega-box that can accommodate all your sound crafting, sequencing, and performance needs.

While the Syntakt is a drum specialist, teeming with percussive possibilities, its 12 tracks can also be utilized for melody, harmony, and bass sounds. Over 35 analog and digital machines – or special sound generators – are at your disposal, allowing you to craft epic sounds from the past and pull others into existence from the future.

The playful and intuitive graphics enable you to affect the sound of each machine. You can select and route your tracks and external inputs through the FX track that boasts delay, reverb, analog distortion, and filters, along with a couple of LFOs. The four expressive modifiers let you run wild with your sounds, exploring different velocities, retrigs, and settings of other parameters.

The keyboard mode opens up a variety of different scales, some familiar and others less so, enabling you to discover new sonic landscapes and take your artistry to another level. With the 64-step Elektron sequencer, you can bring dynamic soundscapes into existence.

The First Modern Elektron Groovebox

Let's face it, Elektron has always catered to a certain crowd. Their boxes's sequencers allowed you to bend the obvious purpose to color in the edges of a musical idea. For example, use one of the Analog 4's voices as a drum track via patch flipping per step, then use another voice to generate chords by detuning the sub oscillators to 5ths and such. The last two tracks can be used for bass and lead. Heaven forbid we use the Analog 4's 4 voices for, gasp, polyphony! That flexibility always made Elektron instruments fun to solve musical problems with, but made them difficult for the average musician to engage with.

Enter the Syntakt, a digital plus analog groove box, with 8 digital assignable machines and 3 analog assignable machines , and a dedicated metallic analog machine. This box can do all drums, or a combination of drums, chords, tones, etc. Suddenly the super flexible sequencer is just fun, and it isn't needed as much to work around limitations. The analog synth machines are basic but punchy. They are VERY easy to dial in basic leads and basses with. The drum "machines" do everything from modern to vintage percs. Finally the "analog effects" allow for envelop controlled VCA ducking of assigned tracks. This lends itself to all sorts of madness but most obvious French Touch pumping effects of the track.

This box is DEEP but the obvious flexibility will obscure most Elektron fanboys from discovering the hidden charms. Let them hate, while they poke around making their 8 voice / 4 channel FM synth do drums and chords, I can sit on my couch and blissfully come up with fun ideas to flesh out later in Ableton.

Another Elektron hit!

I love the Syntakt. I love the sounds coming from this thing!

Picking a synthesis engine and tweaking that also suits my way of working better than digging for samples on the Digitakt.

Personally, I don't really get the performance macro's, so I'm sorry that there are only 12 channels, the last 4 trig-buttons being assigned to the those performance macro's!

But; great little box overall.
