Description
The MD-50E is made by the French luthier Maurice Dupont , one of the most respected builders of “Gypsy Jazz” Guitars.
It faithfully follows the classic Selmer/Maccaferri–inspired “gypsy-jazz” tradition, known for producing the bright, projecting, “jump-blues” sound favoured by players of Gypsy Jazz.
Many pros use Dupont guitars for that authentic “manouche” tone — with clarity, volume and responsiveness when played acoustically or plugged in (often with a pickup).
It’s also prized for its craftsmanship: high-quality tonewoods, careful build and a lightweight yet resonant construction that balances projection and tonal warmth.

• Back & Sides Typically maple (often highly flamed / “bird-eye” maple) for many MD-50E versions
• Top (Soundboard) Solid spruce (sometimes “French spruce” / European spruce)
• Neck Maple neck (on many models) with ebony fingerboard
• Fingerboard Ebony
• Scale Length ~ 670 mm (≈ 26.4–26.75″)
• Nut / Neck Width ~ 44.5 mm at the nut (standard for Selmer-style gypsy guitars)
• Frets / Neck Joint body joins neck around 14th fret (common Selmer-style layout)
• Hardware Brass tailpiece (DM style), quality machine heads (gold / vintage-style in many cases)
• Weight / Feel Relatively light and comfortable , part of what gives its loud, projecting gypsy-jazz tone
• Case Often delivered with a hardshell or hard case
• Sound Loud, clear, punchy , ideal for “Gypsy Jazz” rhythm and lead; Strong Mids and balanced tone with good projection.
