Description

An analog tremolo that can deliver familiar tones or reach into the depths of your sonic imagination.

The Hummingbird is a choppy, sawtooth tremolo modeled on the vintage Repeat Percussion unit and similar to those found in old Valco and Vox amplifiers. It is capable of producing everything from classic 50s style shimmering tremolo to a synthy, delay-like chop that turns your signal into a burst of short pings and on through to near ring modulation speeds. Using the toggle to switch between modes 1 (slow), 2 (mid-tempo) or 3 (fast) and adjusting the Rate and Depth controls will unlock a whole new world of amplitude modulation at your feet. The Rate is also expression pedal accessible to allow instant changes on the fly. Using an expression pedal also opens up the possibility of true random amplitude modulation! In addition to the modulation, the Hummingbird has plenty of clean gain on-tap allowing you to either boost or cut the signal using the level control. If the Depth is turned to zero, the Hummingbird will become a JFET clean boost! The Hummingbird is all-analog, true bypass and handmade one at a time on a gilded cloud in Akron, Ohio.

Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird

thebrag.com

The EarthQuaker Devices Hummingbird is a tremolo pedal that stands out with its unique and choppy "repeat percussions" effect, reminiscent of the old Vox Repeat Percussion. It inspires creativity with its pronounced attack and ability to transform traditional tremolo sounds into vintage synth-style oscillations. Although the fast mode may not suit everyone's taste, it offers a refreshing twist akin to a ring modulator. The inclusion of a level control provides ample headroom for signal boosting. If you're seeking a tremolo pedal with distinct character and versatility, the Hummingbird could be a game-changer for your sound.

EarthQuaker Devices Hummingbird review on pedal-of-the-day.com

pedal-of-the-day.com

The EarthQuaker Devices Hummingbird Tremolo impresses with its versatility, offering a broad range of tremolo sounds from smooth, surfy vibes to aggressive, synth-like effects. Its simple controls and three-way toggle switch make it user-friendly, while the inclusion of an expression pedal jack for rate adjustments is a big plus for live performances. The pedal can even double as a JFET clean boost, showcasing its flexibility. However, its niche vintage-inspired sound might not suit everyone. Overall, it's a creative tool for those seeking to expand their tremolo palette.

best tremolo

Just blew me away the first time I used it, probably the most versatile tremolo there is in terms of the range of sounds you can get.

I'm going to take a guess the blank box next to it is a re-housed EQD Hummingbird Mk1 judging tby the position of the jacks, the selector switch and the charging port. It's generally regarded as the best Vox Repeat Percussion clone, that has been a key part of the Spaceman 3 and Spiritualized sound since forever.

Alex Rosamilia's pedal board is dissected as follows, "The signal starts with the guitar running into an Ernie Ball VP JR volume pedal, and its tuner out hits a TC Electronic PolyTune Mini Noir. From there, the signal enters the first Loop-Master, which is connected to six pedals: a Boss NS-2 (to control unwanted noise from the gain pedals), an Ibanez TS9, a Fuzzrocious Ram the Manparts, an Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander, an Earthquaker Devices Organizer, and an Earthquaker Devices Hummingbird."
