Description
The Fender Telecaster Thinline 1972 Natural is a standout in the world of semi-hollowbody electric guitars, blending vintage charm with modern versatility. This model, a brainchild of Fender's innovative spirit, emerged in 1968 as a lighter alternative to the classic Telecaster. By 1972, it had evolved to feature dual humbucking pickups, offering a richer, fuller sound that sets it apart from its solid-body siblings. The iconic F-hole not only adds to its aesthetic appeal but also contributes to its unique tonal character, providing a warm resonance that’s perfect for both studio sessions and live performances.
Crafted with an ash body and a sleek maple neck, the 1972 Thinline Telecaster feels comfortable to play, while delivering a bright, articulate sound. Its semi-hollow design reduces weight, making it ideal for long gigs without compromising on tone. The natural finish showcases the wood's grain, giving each guitar a distinct personality. Whether you're aiming for classic rock tones, country twang, or experimental sounds, this Telecaster’s versatility will inspire creativity and evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Throughout this video, Jonny can be seen playing 1972 Telecaster Thinline in Walnut.
In the "Bohemian Like You" music video, you can see Holstrom playing a pink Thinline. This article from Guitar Geek confirms this as a '72. In the rig rundown, Holmström explains that he tuned this guitar to Open G for a couple of songs, but now he keeps the guitar in standard tuning. Originally, this guitar had the normal Telecaster pickups, but those were later switched with original Thinline pickups, and Bigsby vibrato was added on as well. This is his main guitar, even though most of the time his main guitar was the Gibson SG.
His mainstay guitar, the one his is mostly photographed with. Has to be a 1972, as the reissue came in 1996, and he was spotted using it way earlier than that!
In this video from the official Daphne Loves Derby Instagram page you can see Kenny Choi using this guitar.
In the video "Heart's Nancy Wilson Rig Rundown with Ryan Wariner & Ryan Waters," produced by Premier Guitar, at 28:11, guitarist Ryan Waters is seen holding his 1972 Fender Telecaster Thinline electric guitar while speaking with John Bohlinger.
