Description
Meet the Guild Traditional Series D-55 Acoustic Guitar, a masterpiece that has stood the test of time. Originally introduced as a special-order model in 1968, it was so adored by the music community that it soon joined the regular production line. This instrument has been the choice of legends like Tommy Smothers, Waylon Jennings, and even contemporary artists such as Billie Joe Armstrong and David Nail.
The 2017 model is a grand reprise of this iconic guitar, offering the same premium features of its predecessor, with a modern touch. The D-55 boasts a AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian Rosewood back and sides, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. The scalloped Adirondack bracing and improved dovetail neck-joint are internal refinements that make this generation of D-55 the lightest, loudest, and best-sounding yet.
The D-55 features Guild's most recognizable headstock, fully bound, and adorned with the Guild “Peak and Shield” inlay over a figured ebony overlay. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound and inlaid with Guild’s iconic abalone/pearl “V-Blocks” and multi-line “railroad track” purfling. The all-mahogany neck and beautiful walnut center seam running the length of the heel to headstock complete the elegant look. The D-55’s nitro finish is hand sprayed for minimum thickness and maximum resonance that only gets better with age.
