Great looper with more and better options than the Boss RC-300 loop station
Finally! A great new multi-channel (4!) looper that is different than all the other loopers!
The Headrush looperboard has a great design. It is a big pedal. Is has 4 channels/pedals instead of the 3 the Boss RC-300 has. It has 4 XLR/Jack combo inputs and 4 outputs. You can route all inputs to the desired channel (pedal) and the desired output. Example: I like to set up my performance with two microphones. Mic one is my singen mic, and mic two is my recording/looping mic. You can hear mic one it through al 4 outputs, but I have done my routing so it won't record on one of the pedals.
You can apply effects, but I'm still practicing on those. At first glance, they are difficult to apply and to turn on or off. But I'm still practicing. A great function this looper has is that you can record a beat on one channel, en record a verse, chorus, and bridge on the other three channels.
You have input volume the main volume, but I wish it would have had a channel (pedal) volume just like the Boss RC-300. When I record something like a riff, and my drumbeat is too hard, I can't adjust it on the fly. It would have been nice to have an extra physics knobs to turn up or down that pedal channel volume.
The only thing a really do not like is in this situation: I record something, so I tap the pedal. After recording, I tap it again. It plays. When i want to overdub, I press it again and stop recording by a second tap. But when I stop the loop and restart, I must not tap the REC/PLAY/DUB button located at the bottom (closer to my feet) because it will go right into overdub mode. I have to lift my feet over the buttom button en reach to the STOP button above it. This is not only impractical because I'm singing while doing it, but I have to keep my balance and It's not intuitive to do so.
Pros: - Great design - It feels sturdy - You can loop more than one way. It has different functions. Fixed, Serial, Sync, Serial/Sync, and a free mode. See more of these functions on the Headrush Looperboard website. - Touch display - Easy to use navigation - Lots of easy options like input, channel and output routing. - Easy to export the recordings (they are WAV files) - The firmware update is not too hard
Cons: - It's big. Too big for a normal backpack. Size: 51.2 x 31.1 x 7.6 cm (Width x Depth x Height) - It's heavy. 5.5 kg. - Playing after recording is not the same button (as with the Boss RC-300) but the button above it. - Pedal layout. The pedals per channel are located above one another, not next to each other like with the Boss RC-300. - It does not have a 'one-shot' option, where you can loop a sample and tap to play once. - I could have used more volume pedal-channel knobs. - It freezes somethings. It has happened twice in the 3 weeks that I have the pedal while I was setting up a loop. I have to unplug the power to restart the device. I am hoping this will not happen to me on stage. - Price. It is an expensive looper, but it is better than the Boss RC-300. It's also a different kind of looper.
I'm still learning to use the pedal. Most con's on size and weight I do not mind myself. It's a really different beast than the Boss RC-300. My tip is to not expect that this is the same. It has some of the same functions but also much more. I like it, but I hope the future firmware updates will help with some of the issues I have with it.
