Equipboard's Expert Review

Simple, Effective Looping

The Boss RC-1 Loop Station is a no-frills looper that delivers exactly what it promises. In our tests, we found it to be a solid, well-built pedal that lives up to the Boss reputation for reliability. The compact design and sturdy construction make it an ideal choice for gigging musicians or those who frequently transport their gear.

We were immediately impressed by the intuitive interface. The large footswitch is easy to engage, even with bare feet, and the LED display provides a clear visual indication of loop length and status. This feature proved invaluable during our sessions, allowing us to time our loops precisely.

The RC-1's sound quality is impressive for its price point. In our experience, it maintains clarity even when stacking multiple loops. The pedal's ability to store loops even when powered off is a nice touch, especially for those spontaneous moments of inspiration.

However, the RC-1 is not without its limitations. The double-click to stop the loop also took some getting used to, and the brief playback when erasing a loop could be problematic in live situations.

For us, the Boss RC-1 Loop Station strikes a balance between simplicity and functionality. It's an excellent choice for beginners, acoustic performers, or anyone seeking a straightforward looping solution. However, more advanced users or those requiring extensive loop storage might find themselves wanting more. Despite its limitations, we believe the RC-1 offers good value for money, especially for musicians looking to dip their toes into the world of looping without breaking the bank.

Boss RC-1 Loop Station review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Boss RC-1 Loop Station is a standout choice for beginners in the looping world. It's praised for its user-friendly design, rugged durability, and affordability. The large LED display ensures you're always aware of your loop's status. With stereo inputs and outputs, it's versatile for various setups. However, it lacks USB connectivity and storage for multiple loops, which could limit live performances. Its absence of a power supply means you'll need an external one. Despite these drawbacks, the RC-1 excels as a basic, reliable looper, making it a top pick for those seeking simplicity.

Simple, Solid, Reliable.

Great loop pedal for the money and an excellent tool to have weather your gigging or just bedroom jamming. Keeps a good level of clarity between individual loops when you start to stack them up. I use mine with a FS-5U to make stopping and undoing that much easier but you don't necessarily need to. Despite being simple, I'd recommend reading the instructions at some point so you can take advantage of the 2 settings you can change to get this loop to be perfect for you.

An extremely solid unit 👍👍

The absolute best looper for those who frequent open mics, house jams, busking on campus. Another great pedal that embraced the less is more philosophy, and hit it outta the park!

Great for Practice

I'm learning to play guitar and this is a great tool for that. I can play a riff or simple chord progression then practice soloing over it. It's good for practicing bending too. Play a note or chord a bit, then loop it and try to bend to match the note(s).

Fun to use

Fun to use difficult to use if you don’t use it all the time. Lots of features

ozthehummingbird

Standard, reliable

Straight-forward and easy (enough) to use for solo jamming and writing/drafting purposes. Display is more helpful than it may seem at first.

kahlor

Simple and effective

A cheap loop station that does what it promises. Perfect to be used on a live gig, better performing with an optional switch pedal to get better control. I use it live when in solo acoustic and it's great!

Very nice pedal

I love jamming with this pedal. Also super useful for live performances, if you're going solo. I believe it has 12 minutes of recording time, which is more than enough.

Read manual please, manual will explain how to remove/undo last overdub and how to bring back last overdub. Super simple, super easy. I know you wrote this two years back but just saying in case someone new to the RC-1 finds themselves confused when reading your comment.

Basic, Well-Built

I had the TC Electronic Flashback X4 before I sold it and bought this. The Flashback is probably the epitome of delay/loop designs currently on the market, but I'm a simple sort of person and the RC-1 is a good match for me. I really like the MUCH smaller footprint as well.

lynx3r

Super dooper looper!

Really simple to use! Love the Christmas like lights that make it easy to tell if you're recording to your loop or if you're just playing over top of it.
